The name alone is laughable anymore. YouTube should just take over.

One would think that showing music videos would be a requirement for having a Video Music Awards show... lol

Other then a holiday showing of Ten Commandments ABC doesn't show movies but they host the Oscars.

ABC also host a country music awards show and none of their shows are country music based now that Nashville has been cancelled.

Fox does/did hosted the Teen Choice Awards despite 0 of their series starring teenagers or about teenagers since Glee ended

Fox Host's the Emmy despite the network Fox not being a contender in any major categories for a few years now.

Re: The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

I watched about the first minute and a half of Britney's performance online this morning, since it was being touted as her first appearance since 2007. Couldn't watch any more than that. Sad and pathetic. She's a far cry from the performer/dancer she used to be. First of all, it pains me that she joined the Gwen Stefani club of women who decide on an apparently small amount of plastic surgery, but end up changing their looks drastically. Both Gwen and Britney had such naturally pretty faces. Next, as I alluded to before, her performances now apparently consist of walking from point A to point B on the stage, posing, and making jerky, awkward hand/arm movements that don't seem to be expressing anything except demonstrating to us that she still retains adequate joint and muscle function. It would have been nice if, over the years, she would have allowed herself to grow into newer, more mature types of music and performance, instead of clinging so obviously to the past. This makes it evident that this is all she was, still is, and ever will be, capable of, and her puppet masters are going to keep it that way.

Huh, I might have been interested in seeing how Britney has held up but I guess I'll save my time. Some of her stuff is mildly enjoyable pop, but when these performers get so over-produced they don't have the staying power.

And all of those are broadcast TV networks that have always had a wide range of programming, not cable channels that were started with one thing in mind. (Movies on network TV have always been pointless anyways because of editing for both time and content. The Oscars is one of the last things on TV that still gets treated with respect, and oddly enough is usually the highest-rated show of its week.)

Plus they don't call these The ABC Oscars or The Fox Emmys. Thereby implying they have something to do with the content.

Wow what a completely pointless post. Guess you started watching MTV when it stopped playing music videos and became a reality show channel?

Re: The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

Anytime a no talent like Kim Kardashian is at an awards show I know better than to watch. I'll check out the next day write up. Looks like I didn't miss much.

It's kinda sad really, I remember when the MTV awards were highly watched and respected. Now they play as a small link on news sites.

Re: The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

The audience was clapping when the K girl with the E! series married to the douche rapper was introduced.

Beyonce had a killer performance though not really into her music.

Key and Peele were annoying and 95% of their bits were not funny and nobody was laughing and that annoying backstage host was atrocious.

Usually the shows last around 2 hrs but with all those comedy bits and talking it ran for close to 3 hours.

Britney Spears is lucky she broke out in the late 90's since she can't compete with Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding. Selena Gomez, Arianna Grande, and all the female pop stars working today who all have the looks and talent which Britney does not have.

Her new record will fizzle out and she will be a nobody again.

Vegas where all the has-been performers go after their career is over.

Forgot to mention Demi Lovato is better than her.

She plays at Planet Hollywood. I've seen the show. She's not bad, she's energetic and a good dancer. But yeah, she doesn't really sing in the show.

Re: The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

Why do they still censor profanity during songs when it is on basic cable?

Why not just put a TV-14 or TV-MA rating before the telecast?
