Buckethead

is God…

I'm surprised we don't have his own dedicated thread. He's one of best guitarists out there.

Re: Buckethead

I don't doubt his skills. He's gifted...but he mostly plays riffs that have already been written by other great guitar gods before him. He needs to put his stamp on something to be truly relevant.

John 5 is kinda in the same boat IMO.

Only when he does covers or homages. The guy has so much fucking music that you can pull from any given material and it all sounds original. It's marketing and you can't market a robot that wears a bucket on his head, which is fine by him. He's a cult icon.

BTW, have you heard John 5's solo instrumental albums? They're phenomenal.

Re: Buckethead

John 5 is very talented but he does the same shit on the neck when he plays. There's no soul or groove to his playing; it's very mechanical.

Buckethead has the soul but he's also a bit robotic. I remember the first time I saw him live was at an Ozzfest in '97 or '98. He came out during Primus' set and nobody knew who the fuck this guy was. We all thought he was Dimebag or some other well-known shredder in disguise. I saw him again a few years later, I think with Cornbugs (feat. Bill Moseley) and he was just as mesmerizing.

The dude sure is prolific, too. I think last year he released something like 100 EPs.

Re: Buckethead

Yeah, the first time I saw Buckethead was during Family Values Tour when Primus was on the bill. We thought it was Wes Borland since Limp Bizkit was headlining.

Re: Buckethead

I realize that you have to have a gimmick to make it in pop music, but wearing a bucket on your head and calling yourself Buckethead is possibly the most limp-dick dumb-shit gimmick of all time.

Seeing him play at the House of Blues in Nola next month. It will be my 3rd time seeing him live.

Re: Buckethead

He is a very good technical guitarist but that is all. He does play better with a bucket on his head than I do without though.

You figure at this point he's established enough that he doesn't need this gimmick anymore... but he's still clinging to it for some dumb reason.

Re: Buckethead

You know he's a cult figure, right? I don't think he was under any allusion that he wouldn't be anything but cult if he went unmasked or changed it up. He's underground and extremely prolific.

Buckethead, is an American guitarist and multi-instrumentalist who has worked within many genres of music. He has released 264 studio albums, four special releases and one EP. He has also performed on more than 50 other albums by other artists. His music spans such diverse areas as progressive metal, funk, blues, jazz, bluegrass, ambient, and avant-garde music.

Re: Buckethead

I like some of his music, although he puts out so much I've stopped bothering. Found him pretty boring live, too.

Re: Buckethead

264 albums? Yeah, but I bet he can't play them all straight through.

Re: Buckethead

Awesome show as always last night. Big B never disappoints.
I was front row (like always) so I got to work the killswitch.

Re: Buckethead

Awesome. I still need to see him live. Given the significant amount of material he likes to put out, are there a few recent titles that somebody can recommend?

Re: Buckethead

Seeing him tonight at The Novo!

Doors at 8pm and the show is at 9pm. I don't know if there's an opening band or not. Can anyone who has seen him live this tour confirm?
