Here's another one for dipper, what with the religiosity and all.
It's one of my favourite ballads, "Amazon Rain", by '80s Canadian balladeer Paul Janz. It's a gorgeous tune, but if you're not into soft rock, don't bother listening.

Mike Scott is definitely in my top two or three favorite vocalists/lyricists of all time. I think I've seen him live eight times now?

Anyone else a fan of The Wild Swans? "I'm a Lighthouse" is my fav of theirs. Space Flower is a marvellous album, but that cover must rank among the most hideous of all time.

Question for Norm: Why are so many great songwriters/singers/musicians Canadian?

It should be noted that the Canadian music cognoscenti has traditionally been dismissive of some Canadian music as "CanCon dross", let's say. CanCon is a form of government support for Canadian musicianship, but given that we live next to the media behemoth that is the United States I am not opposed to it.
