The "Red" and "Blue" albums definitely don't count, being compilations and also embarrassing unless you're in college. No, even if you are in college.

London Calling is number one (as well as all time favorite album).
Sandinista is number two (though it's a triple)

Re: Your top 5 favorite DOUBLE albums of all time

1. Neal Morse- Testimony (I want this played at my wake, start to finish.)
2. Spock's Beard- Snow
3. Flower Kings- Stardust We Are
4. Jerry Cantrell- Degradation Trip Volume 1 & 2
5. Drive By Truckers- Southern Rock Opera

Honorable Mention:

Flower Kings- Flower Power
David Cross- Shut Up You Fucking Baby
Lewis Black- Carnegie Hall Performance
Leonard Cohen- Live in London
Dream Theater- Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence

Does Guns N Roses Use Your Illusion count, or is that considered two separate albums? They were released on the same day.

Mellon Collie - Smashing Pumpkins

Whats interesting is that it appears that the 'Double Album' were a product of the 60's and 70's and early 80's. The only one of significance I know from the 90s+ is the SMashing Pumpkins Double Album.

Wu-Tang Clan - Wu-Tang Forever
The Notorious B.I.G. - Life After Death

Those are the only two double albums I've ever needed.

That's just the change in technology. A single LP maxed out at about 45 minutes of music. A single CD could hold much more. Blood Sugar Sex Magik is 73 minutes long, and The Downward Spiral is 65 minutes long, but nobody thinks of them as double albums.

Live After Death. Maybe the greatest live album ever.

There's more than a few solid double albums from the last 20 years, though some might debate their "significance":

- Being There - Wilco
- Sukierae - Tweedy
- Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth
- Speakerboxxx/Love Below - Outkast
- The Fragile - NiN
- Cold Roses - Ryan Adams
- Reflektor - Arcade Fire
- Drukqs - Aphex Twin
- Generation Terrorist - Manic Street Preachers

I'm sure there's more...

Re: Your top 5 favorite DOUBLE albums of all time

Since most of the "usual suspects" have been listed already (Exile on Main St., London Calling, Quadrophenia), I'll just add these:

Ramones - It's Alive
Kiss Alive
The Who - Tommy (why has it taken so long for someone to list this one?!?!)
