I would assume it will get released to other digital outlets and on CD not too long after Aug. 7. They just want people to get Itunes first.
As someone who has never had Itunes, why is it such a mess? Can music from them be played on winamp and other media players?

I haven't used it in a long time, so maybe it's gotten better, but IMO, iTunes is just a shitty piece of software (I really shouldn't even have to install software at all just to download some music) that only exists to make everything more convoluted. I also don't have any Apple devices, so getting my music from iTunes to where I want it is more difficult than it needs to be. I only used to use it because my wife had an iPod about 7 or 8 years ago, and that experience was enough to keep me away from Apple products ever since.
Gotcha. thanks.
Compton will be streaming on Apple Music on Thursday night from 9 pm to midnight eastern time. I assume the album will be available for purchase at midnight eastern.

NPR has an article with sounds from the lesser known artists featured on Dre's album. It tells a little bit about them as well.

So this is one of the few albums that didn't leak, assuming because there were no physical copies out there yet.
Album will be streaming at this time tomorrow and out for purchase an hour later.

Dre told Lowe he will be donating all proceeds he earns from the album to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment facility for the kids of Compton. The legendary producer said he's been working with Compton mayor Aja Brown to do "something special for Compton."

Just listened to the whole album twice. Absolutely great shit. Will be buying here in a bit.
Snoop hasn't sounded this good since the 90s. Eminem's only verse is outstanding (outside of the rape line, which will no doubt get him in trouble). Kendrick Lamar has a couple tremendous verses as well.
The production is fucking amazing.....the music, the beats etc.

As far as the new guys go, King Mez is solid and Jon Connor is easily the best.
A little too much Anderson Paak, who I think is on 6 tracks. The South African singer Candice Pillay does fine when she's doing a hook. But her little rap or whatever it is on track #3, "Genocide" sucks. But Dre & Kendrick Lamar save that song.
The white rapper Justus basically only does hooks from what I could tell. He, along with King Mez, were apparently there for the whole recording and wrote a lot of the lyrics.
------
Great to hear Xzibit. Ice Cube wasn't particularly good in his brief appearance. It's almost hard to tell it's Dr. Dre rapping at times until you hear some of the lyrics. He doesn't sound like he used to.
Would have liked to hear more of the re-energized Snoop & Eminem since this is the final Dr. Dre album.
Kendrick Lamar was terrific during his 3 tracks.
All in all, a great effort and killer sounding record.

I've listened to this 4 times since last night - Dre is back! Great production, thematically cohesive and some KILLER verses on this thing - echo the comments about Kendrick, Em and Snoop. Snoop hasn't been this good in a long time. Wow, very impressed.

Was anybody able to get the booklet or liner notes for this that normally come with a CD?
I think Dre had some help with production, and I'd like to see who all is credited on each track.

From what I have heard, it is available only on iTunes until the 21st. Its too bad, because I really want to check it out too and would actually be willing to cough up the bucks for a physical release.

Here is a link to the reviews, 6 so far. At 85 percent on Metacritic.

Unrelated, but I went to Amazon and have the album on there, but it does not give a release date yet.

Good deal. I guess this will debut at No. 2 on the charts. Apparently, country superstar Luke Bryan also released an album, which I would guess will be in the top spot.
Curious to see how many units Compton sells by Monday.

Looking like this will sell around 300,000 copies and debut at No. 2 on the charts. I'm sure being released on Friday instead of Tuesday and being exclusive to Itunes hurt.
