Yep, I never get tired of looking at Emily Haines, and hearing her sing.

That new song Risk is like the companion piece to Gimmie Sympathy. They actually shot it using those same "single take" camera techniques.

Emily paid Amoeba Records a visit and is featured in the latest "What's in My Bag" episode:

^ she sounds like she's trying to mask her Canadian accent a bit, but I can hear it come out in a few words/sentences.

That John Hopkins album sounds cool.

Saw Metric last Thursday night at the Phoenix in Toronto. They were awesome . Seeing them in such a small intimate setting was a real treat.

Guys, it’s true. No lie. We’re doing it. So much love and attention has been poured into the making of this album and our preparations for the Doomscroller Tour, I’m beyond thrilled to have a chance to make myself useful and help get you dancing your ass off. The moment has finally arrived where we can start sharing our work with you and I’m so pumped I really don’t even know where to begin…

Ok how about I start with our new album. It’s called Formentera and it comes out July 8, 2022. I’ve been writing down everything about the making of the album, trying to put into words an explanation of why Formentera is the title because I know you’re going to ask me. So here goes…

Even real places become imaginary when they are so far out of reach. Named for an idyllic island near Ibiza off the coast of Spain, Formentera is a place that, at least for us, only existed on a page in a “dream destinations” travel book that lay open on a desk in the new recording studio that Jimmy built in 2020, in a rural hamlet north of Toronto. This is the setting where our eighth (!) album took shape.

We came to this realization that it wasn’t even about an actual place anymore, it was about creating an escape for yourself in your mind because you’re powerless over so many things.

Now let’s talk about the first single, “All Comes Crashing.” You can hear it right now on all platforms. I like to refer to this song as an end-of-days banger. It’s a love song, but not one that is limited to romantic love because not everyone has conventional lives or conventional relationships. It’s more an expression of solidarity with whoever it is you would want to have beside you in the event of catastrophe. It’s dedicated to those you consider your family, whatever that looks like for you. And I think we all discovered exactly who that was over the past couple years.

The official video for “All Comes Crashing” was directed by visual artist/photographer Justin Broadbent. He did the artwork and videos for Synthetica and Art of Doubt, and he took the photo above too. I just absolutely love working with this guy, we have an almost spooky psychic connection that runs through all our collabs. You can check it out now on YouTube.

We are also going on tour!

We’ve already started production rehearsals, building our set list based on fan favorites including deep cuts from Live It Out and Old World and finding where the new songs from Formentera flow with the classics from Fantasies and Synthetica. I want everybody in the room to have the best concert experience possible and feel like they got to escape into another reality with us for the evening. Seriously cannot wait to get this show on the road.

As we have done on many previous tours, we have once again partnered with our friends at PLUS1 so that $1 per ticket goes to supporting War Child and their work to empower children and families in communities affected by war throughout the world.

Here’s how to get your tickets:

Pre-sale starts Tuesday, May 3 at 10AM local at ilovemetric.com.
Code: DOOMSCROLLER

General on sale is Friday, May 6 at 10AM local.

Lots more to come! Escape to Formentera with us...

Weird how the album is only a couple months away, and there's no way to pre-order it.
Is it going to be only digital/streaming on 7/08, with physical months and month later?

Big fan of Metric over the years. 2018's album was stellar. One of the best of that year.

Emily and Co. rarely disappoint. Looking forward to July.

It seems like the windows in general between announcement and release for albums have been slashed to a couple of months, though it does seem unusual to announce an album without being able to preorder (or at least announcing when preorders will be available). Metric are pretty vinyl-obsessed, so it's hard to imagine that not being an option unless they just weren't able to line up a press in time.

Vinyl production has backed up so bad, that I'm sure the physical (at least the vinyl version) is a long ways off.
Head and Heart just released their album to streaming today, with no pre-order available back when they announced the album, but pre-orders were made available today on release day, for a vinyl release of freaking November! That's how bad things are backed up!

I pre-ordered Banks' Serpentina album, which came out 2 weeks ago and the vinyl isn't released until July. I guess it's a 3-month delay at minimum for some releases.

The new album can be preordered (on vinyl and CD) from the ilovemetric app. As I write this anyway, it's only on the app -- not the web shop. Regardless of format, deliveries are estimated for July.

Thanks for the heads up Adam! I got the app and got the deluxe edition vinyl.

You can pre-order on the regular site now too. I think the app just jumped the gun by one day.

I pre-ordered it on Amazon - just the regular edition.

They were saying July for the vinyl, which seemed a little too quick to me, but they quickly amended it to a more realistic September.

Re: Metric

This came out this past Friday. I think it’s their best in years. Last few albums have always had a good song or two, but the songs on this album are all great. And the first song Doomscroller - 10 minutes long! And it’s really good.

No Atmos unfortunately, but I hope it gets upgraded to that.

Metric is one of my favorite bands. I pre-ordered the vinyl for Formentera. September seems so far away now. I still need to do more listens, but solid album so far.

Yes, it’s true, there IS a Formentera II. The part two companion album of ✨nine songs✨ is coming out Oct 13, and today we are releasing the first single, “Just The Once.”

The only way I seem to be able to describe “Just The Once” is to call it "regret disco,” which by the way I have decided and can say first hand from personal experience is 100% for sure a thing. It's a song for when you need to dance yourself clean. Because isn't it amazing how easily you can let things slide as a moral human being? Also lyrically it’s just basically me noticing the whole time how "once" is a simple word with many meanings, a word that plays a game of opposites.

Once can mean once-upon-a-time and refer to a moment in the past, or it can mean someday, once something happens. And as for doing something only once versus doing something once in a while, well, I think we all know how vast the difference is between those two meanings.

I’m so happy this day has arrived and you can finally hear something from this album! It was hard to keep the existence of Formentera II a secret, but I really wanted to announce this one year after we released Formentera, maybe because it gave me some sense of closure or symmetry, who knows. Sometimes I feel like I’m in a damn maze and maybe you do too, or maybe you have it totally together, or maybe you feel like you’re always floating somewhere in between. Wherever you’re at right now, I am here to guide you to the ⚡️rocking⚡️ conclusion of our Formentera I & II odyssey.

All eyes on Oct 13 obvs but yes you can pre-order Formentera II as well as the full double album Formentera I & II on vinyl now. We have several limited edition color versions and all the beautiful things for you. I’m told quantities are limited, so if you want to have it head on over to ilovemetricstore.com

Goods song. I feel like it would go towards the end of the set's encore right before they bust into Black Sheep. I also really dig the orange filter -- reminds me of Blade Runner 2049.

They were also on Colbert earlier this week performing Just the Once:

Re: Metric

Metric just dropped out of their US tour with Bloc Party. Nothing to do with US/Canadian politics, and they claim it’s because Bloc Party changed some things they weren’t comfortable with.

Blonde Redhead is replacing them.

Pretty disappointed as I’m going to Red Rocks for the show, and I was looking forward to both bands. I know maybe one Blonde Redhead song.
