Lorde -- Discussion Thread
a 16 year old New Zealand sensation, (& she didn't come from any reality singing shows either) Her song "Royals" is one of the biggest songs in the country with it being at number 1 on itunes & 3 on the hot 100
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/G-6TGjIZxek" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> and VH1 is streaming the album in full a week in advance http://www.vh1.com/video/misc/958138...by-lorde.jhtml |
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
cannot get that damn Royals song out of my head.
album was streaming on VH1 recently. |
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
The album is good. Great debut, especially for her age.
|
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
I happened to hear her on Ryan Seacrests radio show & he almost sounded dumbfounded that a 16 year old could get a record contract & not be from a reality singing show. She writes all of her songs as well which as we know is very rare in the pop music industry
a 94/100 review from Billboard http://www.billboard.com/articles/re...y-track-review |
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
Very good stuff. I like the production on "400 Lux" a lot.

For the 2 people awake, she is performing Royals on Fallon tonight.

re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
You know as much shit as people still give Fallon, It's still pretty cool to tune in and see the host of a show singing/humming the musical guest's song to the point where the audience is singing along.

re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
I did appreciate the time on Letterman when The Heavy played a song he actually enjoyed (seems rare) and he had them do an immediate encore. That was kind of fun.

re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
She covers Tears for Fears Everybody Wants to Rule the World

re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
That would make for an amazing Bond movie opening.
|
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
Finally picked this up. I'm really enjoying it. Hard to believe she is only 16.
I guess she just turned 17, but I guess I should say I'm surprised a 16 year old made an album like this. |
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
Every time I hear her sing "care" from the song Royals I think of South Park.
Especially the song fatty doo doo. I hear "cyair" |
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
I hardly EVER buy music anymore, but I bought her EP on iTunes many months before Royals got hot. I just loved her voice and the songs (and I'm a 43 year old man!).

Tennis Court i am in love with.

re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
I saw her on the Grammy's and she looks old and awkward. It was very weird. She's very talented, though.
|
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
Because she doesn't give a fuck about what pop stars should look like. She intentionally did her hair that way and dressed that way on the biggest stage of her life. That takes balls.
|
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
Shopping at Hot Topic takes balls? Who knew.
|
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
And performing the Record of the Year at the Grammys under immense pressure to be more commercially viable? Yes.
|
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
I was dying for a T-Pain remix of Royals

re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
Yeah we know she's Anti-Royal as she poses in Chanel and David Yurman on the cover of fashion magazines.
|
re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
Royals was good, however the music video was the antithesis on everything good, i just remember a couple of skinheads sitting around apartments, no joke.

re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
She goes for the minimalist approach in her new music video

re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
That video has been out a longer than her recent album release. She did it for her E.P. awhile back which is why she looks younger in that video.
My favorite song by her though. |

re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
New song:
<iframe width="788" height="484" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dMK_npDG12Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Following the release of her new song and video “Green Light,” Lorde has announced her new album. It is titled Melodrama. The Pure Heroine follow-up is due this summer, via LAVA/Republic. Find the album artwork (painted by Sam McKinnis) below. Scroll down for the “Green Light” video. Lorde co-wrote “Green Light” with Jack Antonoff, and co-produced it with Antonoff and Frank Dukes. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, she said the track is about “[her] first major heartbreak.” She later elaborated, “The song is really about those moments kind of immediately after your life changes and about all the silly little things that you gravitate towards.” She had previously tweeted that the song is “very different, and kinda unexpected. It’s complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you DANCE.” Lorde will appear at a few festivals this year including Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Governors Ball. Re: Lorde -- Discussion Thread
This Song hits right off the bat. If the rest of the album is close to this its going to be great.
