Linda Ronstadt diagnosed with Parkinson's

Apparently, it's completely destroyed her ability to sing. A real shame. She's been retired for a few years, but it's still sad to learn she'll never sing again. It's funny -- I would never consider myself a fan of hers, and I can't remember the last time I listened to her before tonight, but I pulled up her Greatest Hits on iTunes and realized she's got at least half a dozen songs I really enjoy.
And, for those of you too young to know, it's worth pointing out that 35 years ago, she was as hot as can be:

I don't know her work very well, but the songs she recorded with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton were breathtaking. In a world where shallow, artificial talent reigns supreme its a real shame when someone with genuine talent is silenced.

I was watching a clip of her on the Johnny Cash Show DVDs yesterday, and June Carter Cash was pissed at her because when she was on stage with Johnny, she wasn't wearing any underwear. Apparently, she felt she sang better without them. June had a worker go buy her a pair and made her put them on. She was smokin' back then. I had a relative that had Parkinson's and she doesn't have an easy road ahead of her...

Sorry to hear this news. My father-in-law had Parkinson's.

I suffered with similar tremors myself for about a month 2 years ago, when some medications I was taking conflicted like crazy. I can't imagine the difficulty people must have, who wind up stuck with it permanently. I hope she and her family turn to God with this.

I don't know if I've ever knowingly listened to Linda Ronstadt. I'll have to correct that.
And hell yes she was smoking hot back in the day.

I'm a huge Warren Zevon fan and back in the day she covered a bunch of his songs. I think that's when I first became aware of who she was.

She had a great voice and wasn't shy to show off her sexuality. Loved the album cover for Hasten Down the Wind.
But it's always sad to hear of a singer losing their ability to sing.

That sucks. I used to love her stuff, she was the true 70s pop vocalist. Also really loved her Nelson Riddle stuff in the 80s -- it's still my favorite version of many of those standards including one of my all-time favorites "Someone To Watch Over Me".
I'm also sad thinking about the last time she played Vegas. She was playing the Luxor's theater and this was at the beginning of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, shortly after the Dixie Chicks controversy. She dedicated a song to Michael Moore, who she called "an American Hero" and the crowd turned ugly on her, booing her, storming out and ripping down posters. It was an absurd reaction then and worse now. What a shame that will be her Vegas legacy.
