There are two kinds of "'80s music" in my mind. There is the first half of the decade, the post-punk/new wave era (which was really more like 1978-1983), which was filled with great music full of minimalism and a certain darkness in both sound and style; then there was the last half of the decade which was all shiny synthpop and day-glo colors and horrible hair bands -- all of which were very corporatized. The first part was the best period in music history, in my opinion. The last part was the worst. Quite a paradox of a decade.

No surprise, just about all of the music posted in this thread has been from the early part of the decade, except the OP's (also no surprise).
