Re: MICHAEL JACKSON - Unofficial Discussion Thread

Has anybody heard this "new" album being put out? I've seen quite a few favorable reviews from music critics. Only 8 tracks but I'm sure they're saving more.

Curious to see what regular people think of it.

Re: MICHAEL JACKSON - Unofficial Discussion Thread

I've listened to it a couple of times. It's really not too bad. A definite improvement over the previous posthumous album.

I know there are some fanatics who will tell you that everything Michael himself released was gold, but I don't think he ever put out a perfect album. There were always tracks that I thought were sub-par or downright awful on his albums.

I'll probably be crucified by MJ fans, but I also think that Thriller is an incredibly overrated album with some boring-ass songs peppered throughout the album so that it's impossible to just listen to the entire thing without having to skip multiple songs. Dangerous is the only album of his that I can listen through almost from start to finish.

That said, I think that, while none of the songs on Xscape hit me as legitimate #1 singles, every song on the new album, IMHO, is better than something that made it onto one of Michael's own albums.

The King of Pop may be gone, but his music will live on forever. SiriusXM has launched The Michael Jackson Channel, an exclusive, limited-run channel celebrating the King of Pop’s legendary solo music career. If you love Michael Jackson and his body of work, this channel is a can’t miss event. The 15 day running of the channel will embody the decades of musical contributions that Michael has made.

The Michael Jackson Channel will feature Michael’s music beginning with the breakout success of his 1979 Off the Wall album through the present. Listeners will also hear music from the new album XSCAPE, which features eight new recordings. The channel will also feature reflections and stories from the producers who worked on the new album.

The Michael Jackson Channel will launch on Monday, May 12 at 5pm ET and will run through Monday, May 26, via satellite on channel 50. The channel will also be available through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App on smartphones.

Re: MICHAEL JACKSON - Unofficial Discussion Thread

I listened to some samples of Xscape on Amazon. The opening track is really good. Sounds like something from the Off The Wall era. I might get the album because his previous posthumous album wasn't that great. I agree that Thriller, while having some excellent singles, as an album is really uneven. Off The Wall is the better album, but Thriller has greater singles.

I want a MJ, Tupac and Johnny Cash super group album. Perhaps Jimi Hendrix could play guitar.

After listening to it a few times I'm pretty happy with it (all versions)
I can hear a few different decades in there and I like that.
I would have liked more tracks but we all know Sony is going to milk this for eternity.

I think the new producers did a great job with the album, the first 8 tracks. Much better than I was expected.

Of course, it's the 19th track with Timberlake that will really blow the thing up.

As long as they dont get crazy with the collaborations. I want a Michael Jackson album, not a "Feat." album.
