Bands best consumed via Greatest Hits CD only?
I was looking through my music collection and noticed a few bands I really don't need to listen to outside a Greatest Hits CD (one disc or two).
Off the top of my head I'd say Journey, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Devo, and Hall & Oates fits this bill for me.
Anyone else feel that way about certain artists or bands?

For me, INXS is the first band to come to mind. They had two or three GREAT songs on every album, but with rare exception (namely Kick and maybe Listen Like Thieves), the rest were just okay.

For me, ABBA, War, George Thorogood, Sly and the Family Stone are 4 I have greatest hits by I like fine and most of the songs are good (although the ABBA one has some filler, even if you like ABBA) but don't need anything else by. I like Devo a lot so for me they are not that way at all (although you get closer to all the best by adding in Greatest Misses).

Some that come to mind for me are:
Aerosmith
Billy Joel
Iron Maiden
U2
Granted I do like certain albums by the groups above but more or less I'd be fine just listening to their hits and picking and choosing the albums I really want.

To the people listing Iron Maiden you should be ashamed of yourselves and not allowed to listen to music. The first seven Maiden studio albums are classics and should be listened to in their entirety. Same goes for the four reunion albums with Bruce.

Bryan Adams
Except for first album, The Cars. Since there's a greatest hits that contains entire first album in sequence, that's all you need.

Really surprised on Iron Maiden. For me, I like everything on their "good" records. Pretty much everything from the 80's of theirs is gold to me.
Most of the time greatest hits records are a waste for me. If I like songs on them enough, I will likely like the whole record they came from. So I don't like using them as a way to get into a band. I'd rather pick their best record and digest it in full and go from there.

I haven't gotten real familiar with the new era of Dickinson Maiden records, but I thought Brave New World would have been a worthy successor to 7th Son. It's not the No Prayer For the Dying is bad, but it's not on the same level. And Fear of the Dark has maybe 5 good songs. Some of them are out and out bad.

Upon reflection, I would like to change my answer from Aerosmith to every band that's not your favorite band.

For sure not Maiden or Mellencamp.
The only album I ever saw by The Steve Miller Band in anyone's collection was Greatest Hits.
