OneRepublic - Native

No thread on this new album? I'll admit it. I love the new album. Pure goodness from start to finish. Every song is good.

It's ok. Didn't enjoy it, or find it nearly as engaging as Waking Up. That was an album that caught me completely by surprise in how good it was.

There's a couple of tunes on this album where it feels like they are channeling Maroon 5 - but if I want to listen to them, I'd just as soon listen to them, and not someone trying to sound like them.

I agree that there is nothing as complex as Waking Up or Misding Persons, but I think it is a very good mix of the first and second albums.

These guys have got to be regretting the name of their band. I bet they get mistaken for One Direction all the time especially since they have 5 members.

Maybe so, but considering they already had two hit albums out before One Direction even had one out, who was to even know? It's not like they would have picked that name had they known there was going to be some new pre-teen sensation with a similar sounding moniker coming out a few years down the road.

I still mostly stand by my original assessment, but, that said, the album is growing on me. I'm still bothered by the couple of attempts where they are writing tunes to intentionally sound like other bands (Maroon 5 and Mumford And Sons), as Ryan Tedder is capable of better than that.

"Can't Stop" and "Light It Up" are pretty outstanding, though. Particularly the chorus parts on the former.

Light it Up reminds me of some U2. I really like "I Lived". Reminds me of Good Life.
