Re: The VINYL Thread!
^I think I'm going to skip that release. Too rich for my blood.
I purchased 3 items from the Fu Manchu website: http://images.bigcartel.com/bigcarte...0/IMG_4755.JPG http://images.bigcartel.com/bigcarte...0/IMG_4757.JPG http://images.bigcartel.com/bigcarte...n_01_copy.jpeg Good thing I got my order in, because the first 2 are sold out. They should be here this week sometime. |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
Wouldn't expect too many people here to know of this band, but I just bought this reissue yesterday:
http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/025...g?v=1447697104 Green vinyl (of course), and with the message "In memory of Lynette Knackstadt" scratched into the inner ring. She was the guitarist of the band, died of an overdose a few years back. |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
I can't tell you how many times I've listened to that album.
Did you ever the Bruce Lee Band album Mike Park put out? |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
My BTTF Mondo vinyls are delayed.
Guess that gives me more time to buy a turntable! |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
Posted this about a specific boxset in the Metallica thread earlier, but thought it might be worth mentioning here as well. Soundstagedirect.com has 20% of all vinyl purchases with coupon LP20 thru midnight tonight. Preorders ARE included.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Am I the only one itching for the RSD release list? 45 or so days left to go!

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I was just thinking about this the other day when Phish's album Hoist appeared on Amazon and other sites with an unknown release date. Here is supposedly a partial list (not verified but somewhat reliable):
I'm not thrilled with a single title. |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
And more....
|
Re: The VINYL Thread!
I honestly hope RSD dies soon. It no longer feels like something done to celebrate record stores and is now just about people standing in lines to get exclusive releases so they can flip them on ebay. Pass on the whole thing.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
This year there's actuall a bunch I want to pick up.
CCR, Bowie, Easybeats, Johnny Thunders an the Heartworn Highways set. |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
The only titles I'd want off that list are the Goblin releases, Stelvio Cipriani and maybe that Rob Zombie single because the artwork is pretty great.
|
Re: The VINYL Thread!
I'd buy the Bill Evans LP. How many MDC releases can there possibly be?

I completely understand why RSD is hated on - I dislike the flippers too. But you can waltz into a record store 2-3 hours after they open and buy something cool and never deal with a flipper. I don't get upset if I don't get something that is limited - if I really wanted it, I'd wait for it. Hell, before the internet, we'd stay in a Sears parking lot all night to be first in line for concert tickets being sold at Ticketron. Getting something limited has always been a pain in the ass. |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
Initially I would say that I didn't see anything that interested me, but I DO want the Animals, Sven, and probably Goblin. My wife meanwhile wants all Disney related (albeit me to). Now I am a whore for the Side x Sides so I will get all those. Some names on that list that didnt pop for me, I will research to see what makes that release special and may get it. Like Blue Mountain Eagle from last year. Never heard of it, read about it, bought it. Love it
This will be my first RSD and I am excited. Given I live in the middle of fucking no where though (closest RSD store is about 3 hrs away) I would like to take vacation to see what I find. My sister is going to her local one (about 3 miles away from her) so we can see what we find. On that note, I fucking hate flippers. I hope they die |

I recently got the reissue of David Bowie Heathen.
Also, the MFSL editions of Miles Davis that have come out recently are ridiculously great. I have most of them now. I still need Round About Midnight, Kind of Blue, Miles In the Sky, and Filles de Kilimanjaro. Highly recommended for jazz fans. I just got Herbie Hancock Maiden Voyage in an awesome RSD exclusive transparent green vinyl and love it! Im interested in more Jazz so if you have any suggestions I am all ears man. Thanks I really appreciate it :) |

Scored a super-nice copy of Tull's "Songs From The Wood" at Caroline's Records in Cocoa Beach, FL last weekend.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...sL._SX425_.jpg The cover was a bit tattered but it plays wonderfully. Wish I could say the same for the copy of Genesis's "Seconds Out" I picked up at the same time. |

Is this the BBC release or a different one? I have found the BBC release at a store and really considered picking it up. Any particular reason you like it so much?

Thanks I really appreciate it :) http://www.mofi.com As for jazz, I'm a Mile Davis guy. You have Miles' "cool" period, his "hard-bop" period, his "post-bop" period, his "acid-fusion" period. It really depends on what type of jazz you like. I prefer the stuff from his "2nd great quintet" (Miles, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Tony Williams): E.S.P., Miles Smiles, Sorcerer, Nefertiti, Miles in the Sky, Filles de Kilimanjaro. But I really like his "electric" period: In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew, Jack Johnson, On The Corner, etc. Then there's Coltrane. Buy A Love Supreme immediately. Then check out Giant Steps or Live at the Village Vanguard Again!. But there is so much - but stay away from Ascension unless you like insane free jazz. :) I also very much like Eric Dolphy. His record Out To Lunch was groundbreaking but pretty out there to fans of plain old jazz. All these jazz musician played together in various permutations. You can get most any Blue Note record and you will be good. Sonny Rollins, Jackie McClean (One Step Beyond is a great record), oh, and of course Charles Mingus. Mingus is different from the rest as his albums are really original and profound works - almost symphonic, usually with large groups. |

The last time I was able to waltz into a store later in the day and get something good was when I found the last copy of the Chronic Town reissue. Ever since then, anytime I've gone after the big rush, anything of interest was gone. This is at Amoeba in Hollywood.

It just sounds really good (pressing from Varese Sarabande) and originals are north of $100.

I'm going to check out those other Blue Note artists when I get home! Being the jazz aficionado that you are maybe you can help me out. I really like jazz with drums, bass, and keys. A jazzy groove that almost sounds like Muzak. The closest thing that comes to this that I can pinpoint is the first song/intro on Stone Temple Pilots - Tiny Music album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ywv6D-67EbI Ive always wanted a band like this (is this even jazz? lol) and Ive only heard ONE other band like this. I was at a bar in California and these 3 dudes were playing stuff like this. They had no releases; just a garage "Jazz" band that was something Ive never heard before. Any ideas? |

Pat Metheny Group possibly?
