For the record, those are the headphones. Not the speakers. ;)

I'm really happy that my ears aren't good enough to hear the differences that would justify spending that much money on an album.

I just wonder how many of these audiophiles have a system like that at home. Granted, if they have that kind of scratch to drop on a record then they most likely do.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

That's a good question, but I'm willing to guess there are at least a few of them with a Crosley at home.

I've been on that Metric kick and just scored:

for about $20 shipped via Amazon through a third party seller. In fact, it's the same seller that I bought the other Metric album a few days ago.

So this new Pioneer PLX 1000 direct drive turntable is getting good reviews. Looks like it's around $700. Anyone seen one in person?

Oh, that is nice! Might see if I can't score one of those, myself. Was the seller beaches?

They sound like a different band completely on that album, but I still love it.

Yep, it was beaches.

I personally think that the guy in that article is somewhat of a con man taking advantage of people.

Yeah, different pressings will sound different. Thanks for the info guy. There are too many factors in determining what sounds "better."

This guy has found a way to pull money out of pockets. That's all he's done. Anyone can buy multiple copies of a cheap record and decide which one sounds better to them; the difference is that this guy then charges out-the-ass for the record that he decides is the best.

Skimmed that article. That's ridiculous.

In non-ridiculous news, I got my copy of Hand. Cannot. Erase. by Steven Wilson today. It's pretty amazing.

I looked over the RSD releases, and was happily shocked to see Polaris' The Adventures of Pete and Pete soundtrack listed! I listen to that album digitally about 1-2 times a month.

Me too. That allows me to buy good equipment but not great equipment as well. :)

I'd be willing to pay a small premium for a record guaranteed to be mint. There are a lot of sheisters out there who can't grade a record. But I wouldn't pay THAT much of a premium especially for a mass produced classic rock album.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

The only thing I really want off of the Record Store Day 2015 list is Foo Fighters: Songs From the Laundry Room which is a 10" that features some demos. I'll have to hunt for it online though since I don't have a local record store. The Metallica: No Life Til Leather cassette could be kind of a cool novelty item to have too. Other than that a pretty meh list overall.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

There's a Doors mono release that has me intrigued since it's all analogue.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I only saw one thing on the pre Record Store Day list I was excited about, but now that the "official" list has been released, there are about 10 items I'm interested in. And here I thought I was going to get off easy this year.

Went to Amoeba tonight and scored me a copy of the Insidious score on vinyl.

Speaking of "It Follows" I just pre-ordered the vinyl:

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I ordered that as well. Had heard it was limited to 1000 copies.

I did not hear that it was limited to only 1,000. I went to the composer's website and apparently he's anti-physical media and only agreed to have the score released on CD and Vinyl as a favor to the director.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Underwhelming RSD list this year. Only interested in a few releases (Kinks singles, Psycho score, Darjeeling Limited OST). Didn't know a handful of Springsteen's albums were getting RSD releases.

Mike86 03-15-15 11:51 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I missed the Psycho score 7" on the list. That would be cool to have too.
