Nice, I have that on CD but I wouldn't mind getting the vinyl version of it too.

I thought I had pre-ordered this but I hadn't and it's been out.

I finally got around to getting myself a turntable(along with some nice new speakers). I only had one LP( Led Zep IV) remaining from my old collection from my pre-CD buying years.

I went out and bought The Clash's Combat Rock on the 180g vinyl and it sounds much better than my old Zep. It almost sounds too good

For a few dollars less than the Clash record I picked up these four records used:

All are in very nice condition and play great. Styx and Berlin came with the original sleeves with the lyrics, which I was really impressed by. Who Are You is on red vinyl.

Is that a special reissue of Who Are You? I have it as well, but standard black vinyl, not red.

It's an original pressing. MCA Canada released the album on the red vinyl.

Astrochimp - combatrock is underrated. Know yr rights, car jam, stay or go, casbah, straight to hell (maybe best clash?!?), etc...might be the most open minded clash?

Thoughts?

To be honest, I bought Combat Rock on vinyl since it was the only Clash record I didn't already have on CD. I know most of the songs of course, but as an album I am just sort of discovering it. I like it though, hey it's The Clash. I love Sandinista and all its quirks so I'm sure this will be the same.

I busted off the stylus on my old beater Technics and decided to buy a Pro-ject Debut Carbon. For a budget turntable, it's a vast improvement.

New vinyl purchased this week:

Phish - Lawn Boy (RSD 2013 release)
Amanda Palmer - Theatre is Evil 2LP
Dawes - Nothing is Wrong (2LP 45)
Jenny Lewis - Carpetbaggers 7"

Old stuff:

Urgh! A Music War (2LP, $3)
Squeeze - Cool for Cats ($3)
Flaming Lips - Telepathic Surgery (2LP, blue vinyl, $15)

Hit almost every record store in the Twin Cities yesterday, didn't grab a lot, but it was nice to get out and enjoy the whole day:

David Bowie - Golden Years - Used
The Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed - Used
Tycho - Dive - New

Nevermind my last post. Mondo just updated the status of Gravity:

GRAVITY Pre-Order UPDATE
Hey All, sorry for the silence on this subject: We experienced some delays in the production of our GRAVITY vinyl. I wish there was a more detailed explanation I could provide, but the truth is that vinyl production is a very timely process and we unfortunately miscalculated the arrival of our finished product. I was hoping that by now I would have an exact ship date to share with y’all, but for now all I can say is we are approximately three weeks behind schedule.

Kevin’s fully realized artwork came out amazing, and we can’t wait for you to see it. More details on the variant colors, and packaging soon. I will have another update next week, and on-going updates until we have the finished product in hand and shipping labels printed. Thank you all for your continued patience.

I only wish the album included the performances of Dead Kennedys and Chelsea, two of the highlights from the film for me.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I am having a problem with my newly purchased Sony Turntable. Its certainly not a high end machine, but the records sound nice on it. But Im having a problem with albums skipping. I can understand it with some of the older ones I purchased but it shouldnt with a brand new 180g LP. I am also wondering if the way I have it set up if the vibration from the speakers is causing it to skip. Originally I had it on the bottom but I swapped it with the receiver and blu-ray and moved it up a notch. I dont play music very loud since I am in a condo. It seems very sensitive to any movement.

Is this setup a recipe for disaster or should I just return this thing and get myself something nicer? And would a better player(Sony was just over $100) lessen this problem?

Is the arm weighted correctly, or, can you even adjust the arm weight with that turntable? Seeing where it is sitting, I doubt the speakers are causing the skip, though they are in the cabinet and not on the floor...trying moving them to the carpet and see if it is still happening. Check your needle for dirt/dust and wear, these issues can also cause that problem. Personally, I would get a better player. Check craigslist or some thrift stores, almost any old technics or pioneer would do you much better. Check whatever model you find at audiokarma.com to get some ideas of its pluses and minuses.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

It has zero adjustments on it. The arm feels very light to me. I'm leaning toward getting something better. I didn't think I was going to enjoy getting back into LPs as much as I have and I had a giftcard so I went with the Sony. I'm gonna look around for some other options.

Thanks :)

No problem. And, I am sure you know this, but that Sony likely has a built in phono amp...I am not sure if your receiver has a dedicated phono input. If so, you are fine, if not, you will likely also need to get an external phono amp for an older turntable.
