The Strokes -- "Album 5" -- 2013 (new single: All the Time)
From CoS:
After about a year’s worth of whispered, looming rumors, The Strokes will soon return with their first new single following 2011′s Angles. According to Seattle’s 107.7 The End, RCA Records sent the station a new track titled “All the Time”, which is set to appear on the NYC rockers’ oft-discussed fifth studio album (via The Strokes News). So, keep your ears perked for Julian Casablancas’ timeless croon, or your eyes open for those trademark neon shoes of his – either/or, really.
Wow, who’s next 2013?
Update: Billboard has confirmed “All The Time” as the intended first single and reports that the band’s fifth studio album will be released later this year.
Update: 107.7 The End posted more on their exclusive listen, writing: “While RCA is keeping most of the details of the forthcoming new full length album (yes, you read that correctly) under wraps, we can tell you that of the two songs we heard, one was a more synth driven track, with the other (the aforementioned, “All The Time”) packing a classic strokes sound. No mention of a tour came up, but we can tell you, you’ll be hearing new music from the band sooner than later.”

Hard to believe it has been two years since Angles. I look forward to some new music from the boys.

Seriously. I loved the first two albums but the last two left quite a bit to be desired.

It's also becoming pretty obvious that the Strokes signature sound from the first album is pretty much all they have going for them. They're not going to evolve into something new and original. Bands like the Ramones and AC/DC recognized this and milked it for decades. Not sure bands have that luxury any more.

Did anyone here even listen to the last album or just dismiss them because the third album was such a letdown? Pretty much the general consensus I've seen online is that Angles was a strong "comeback" album for them and was really underrated because The Strokes were no longer "the hip new thing" in 2011. Any album that boasts songs like Under Cover Of Darkness, Machu Picchu and Games isn't a total failure IMO.

Yeah I actually liked Angles. Personally I never really had much of a problem with First Impressions of Earth either. It wasn't as good as their first two albums but it wasn't terrible. Looking forward to hearing the new album!!

This reminds me of a Weezer thread.
How was the third album a letdown? First Impressions of Earth is my favorite Strokes album. So many great tracks. Heart in a Cage off of it is probably my favorite song by them. I liked Angles quite a bit also. Taken for a Fool is another great track from it.

Angles was fucking great - renewed my interest in the band completely. Looking forward to this.

I don't think the new song is that bad... but then again I think a-ha were a great pop band who were unfortunately (in the US at least, worldwide they had dozens of hits) known more for a great video than their music.

If the Strokes were a versatile band who could pull off transistions into different sounds, you might have a point. However they have one signature sound and a bunch of songs where they try to sound like other bands.
