Re: Most Disappointing Albums of 2012
hmmm, I personally loved The Idler Wheel and The 2nd Law
To me the big disappointments of 2012:
Scissor Sisters "Magic Hour". They followed up their best album so far with a generic dance-pop album
The Killers "Battle Born". Not 'bad' per se, but very mediocre and beginning to make me wonder if their first two albums were flukes as I didn't care for their third album either. Very paint by numbers
Madonna "MDNA". The Madonna up to 2005 wouldn't be caught dead recording songs like "I'm Addicted" and "Give Me All Your Lovin'"

THIS. On both fronts. Was sooo disappointed in the Scissor Sisters record. After their career high with "Invisible Light" - it was sorta to be expected.
Same with The Killers. Good lord what a mess.

I'm going to say Graham Parker and the Rumour - Three Chords Good because I was expecting something with some bite and it's kind of limp like much of his later work. Plus it has the worst album cover of the year, if not decade.

The new How To Destroy Angels was not as good as the first IMO.
I would also say there is an annoying trend in pop music were they say one line about 7-8 times in a row.

My biggest disappointment was the Dragonette album - their first self-produced one but it might as well be a Martin Solveig album. Almost all of it sounds like their collabs over the past few years with none of what made them special in the first place and it just makes me want to cry. Outside of "Untouchable" - which is one of the best things they've ever done, so of course they didn't do it on tour - I never really need to hear the rest again.

I really wanted to like Co-exist from The xx but it sounded just like their first album, minus the haunting melodies. Real let down, considering Jamie xx has had some great remixes and such post that debut album (We're New Here with the late great Gil Scott Heron comes to mind).
Some Nights from fun. left a lot to be desired as well. It all sounded so generic and processed (is that what they were going for?).

The XX - Coexist - Was really looking forward to this one, but could just not get into it. I think perhaps it was a bit too minimalist. Just came off as one note. I also thought it lacked most of the elements I loved about their debut. With that album, I could pop it in almost any time and enjoy it, however with this one, it's something I'd really have to be in a mood to listen to. I just didn't find myself doing that much, and barely spun it after the first few primary

i don't really buy "new" albums much anymore but i'd have to say megadeth's last one, 13, was pretty dang disappointing. listened to it a few times and don't plan on adding any of the songs to my m'deth comp...so there you go...

I actually wasn't even a Fiona fan until this album. The Idler Wheel is what made me interested in her earlier music as well. Until this album I thought of her mostly as that girl who did "Criminal" and had the pretentious speech at the MTV VMA's (one of the last years MTV was watchable)

I finally listened to the new Muse. Wow that sucks. It would top my list, but I guess I wasn't expecting much after hearing the 2 songs I did (the Olympic song and Madness)

For me, at least, I had the opposite reaction with Muse. In fact, I find the more I listen to it, the more I'm liking it. I have none of the issues others seem to with it. The dub-step elements didn't bother, and I liked the tunes the bassist (sorry, his last name escapes me at the moment) sang lead on.
