I remember the terrible english version of the "Macarena" getting more play than the actual spanish version.

El Watusi by Ray Barretto was a big hit on AM radio in the early 60's:

Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)? the silly french sounding song that I never heard until it was in The Darjeeling Limited was apparently a hit in 1969.

First song I thought of. And still gets a lot of airplay in California.

OMG. This song has been hovering in my mind for TWO YEARS now, and I tried Googling every which way. Somehow using the word 'anthem' instead of 'song' brought me here, and I have my answer. Bless you, bless you bless you.

At the rate they are going, Babymetal will have a nice hit with "Gimme Choco". 12M views on Youtube so far.

Not sure if this was a huge american hit but as a young lad of 7 when I saw and heard in the theater, I was quite taken. Classic.

I'm not sure I'd call it a "huge hit" but Rammstein's "Du Hast" seems to be pretty recognizable to most people, and I've heard it played at many sporting events, especially hockey arenas.
