Dream Theater - Awake

A co-worker had Pull Me Under on a mix tape but I never sought out the album. One o the mall record stores had Awake on a listening station and just barely into the first song("6:00") I was sold. I paid the ridiculous $18.99 or whatever it was back then and changed my listening habits permenantly. Up to that point I was a top 40 person.

Nice.

This is my favorite album of theirs, but I have to admit, after one listen I was left unimpressed. I purchased it well after it was released, but even then the only DT album I had was Images and Words and it was just too different from that for me to immediately appreciate.

I'd like to add: One Way Home by The Hooters. It has a civil-war theme to it, really liked it upon my first listen when it came out in 1987.

Of course, any album by The Doors. Goes without saying!

Miles Davis - Agharta. A friend had it on vinyl, one night he put it on the turntable and I was immediately transfixed. But the album was just as commanding too.

I liked Vivid and Tumbleweed Connection straight away. It took me a few listens to get into Moving Pictures and Pet Sounds but now they are two of my favorite albums.

Many good ones already mentioned here. Revenge, Cars, Back In Black, and was especially glad to see One Way Home by the Hooters. Awesome, awesome, awesome.
Will add Poison-Look What The Cat Dragged In and Ozzy-Ultimate Sin. I know their 80s hair band stuff but still loved them after the first playthrough.

Ultimate Sin is way under appreciated. After years of listening, it's probably my favourite Ozzy album.

Re: Albums that became one of your favorites after just one listen?

A couple that come to mind from this year would be Bruce Springsteen: Wrecking Ball and Jack White: Blunderbuss. Springsteen's definitely still got it at his age and I love the album from start to finish. Jack White has been a favorite of mine for a while too and his solo debut met all my expectations.
