It looks like it went up accidentally last night and iTunes took it back down. Still available on Spotify though.

Seems the early release also came as a surprise for some of Lamar's inner sanctum. Anthony Tiffith, the CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment, which represents Lamar, was less than impressed. He tweeted. "I WOULD LIKE 2 PERSONALLY THANK @Interscope FOR FUCKING UP OUR RELEASE... SOMEBODY GOTS 2 PAY 4 THIS MISTAKE !!!! #TOP"
this is the kraziest shit ever
i will deal with bs later.... lets focus on the album.....TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY

Oh no. They put it on iTunes for people to purchase before it was time. Time for what? What promotion is going to work better than friends frantically texting each other that the new Kendrick just dropped?
I've heard a bit of it so far and find it pretty interesting. Love the cover.

Surprised no one else from Black Hippy is on the album. Looking forward to it though, will pick it up on release day.

Re: KENDRICK LAMAR: "To Pimp a Butterfly" - 3/23/15
I preordered it on iTunes and it was available this morning. It hasn't been taken down and you can still purchase it. I read the tweets about TDE being upset with it being released early and thought that was the truth for a while. After thinking about it for a few hours I believe it's all BS and this was planned. If you go through and look at a tweet Kendrick put out last night at 11:51 pm he says 20 year later, he is referring to the release of 2Pacs Me Against The World which was released 20 years ago on March 14. iTunes wouldn't just by mistake put it out.

Goodness, this record. Not even sure what to think after my first listen. I guess that's a compliment, seeing how 99.9% of the albums that come out are instantly digestable. This dudes on a jazz trip that hip hop has never seen and he's pushing to say things that are different. Like the sound or don't, we should at least compliment his continued drive to be a real voice of change in the doldrums of modern hip hop. Can't hate him for being himself. Slightly moved by the repetition of his poetry.

I like it, maybe not as much as Good Kid, Maad City but it's still a great album. However, I prefer the single version of "i" over the album extended version.

Re: KENDRICK LAMAR: "To Pimp a Butterfly" - 3/23/15
Kendrick Lamar is off to a fast start with his surprise early release, To Pimp a Butterfly, and it should give the artist his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. Industry sources are forecasting the set to move over 325,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 22.
The physical version of the album seems to be in stock at most major brick and mortar retailers. (As of March 18, Target doesn't appear to be selling the title, however, a representative for the company says the album will be available in stores and online soon.)

I would disagree with this and point to (in chronological order) Stetsasonic, Digable Planets, The Roots, Guru's work with Razzmatazz, and any number of other jazz/soul hybrids. As for funk, just look at Chronic-era Dre.
However, I don't remember any major artist with such a hyper-anticipated album releasing something like this out of left field. And certainly Kendrick is not a backpack rapper, so he achieves this coming from a different angle.

I'm enjoying it. I would prefer a few G-funk radio type singles thrown in there with all the artsy stuff, but it is real solid from start to finish.
There was not one song that I disliked.

I'm listening to some of it right now. It's okay. "King Kunta" is a good song but despite him having some immediacy in his delivery I still find it kind of dull. I give him props for doing some thing different though, beat-wise.

Re: KENDRICK LAMAR: "To Pimp a Butterfly" - 3/23/15
I think this will be one of those hip-hop albums that people who don't normally listen to hip-hop will really like and hold up. Pitchfork gave it one of their highest ratings, and they hate everything. A 96 on Metacritic not only makes it Lamar's best rated album, but the highest rated new album so far this year.

Re: KENDRICK LAMAR: "To Pimp a Butterfly" - 3/23/15
I don't listen to a lot of rap/hip-hop, but I did really like Maad City. I also really like this album. I think the jazz infusion is fantastic. I've been listening in the car through Spotify, so I don't know all the song names but King Kunta was definitely one of the highlights for me. I didn't care so much for the "spoken word" (maybe one of the interludes) about black men under 30. The second time a long statement about the struggles was responded to by "that's crazy", it completely lost me.

Re: KENDRICK LAMAR: "To Pimp a Butterfly" - 3/23/15

n December 2014, prior to the release of his third album To Pimp a Butterfly (2015), Lamar performed an unreleased, untitled track as a musical guest on the The Colbert Report. In January 2016, he performed another untitled song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.[4] Following his acclaimed performance at the 2016's Grammy Awards, which included aspects of another new untitled track, Lamar revealed the existence of a collection of tracks that did not make it onto Butterfly: "I got a chamber of material from the album that I was in love [with] where sample clearances or something as simple as a deadline kept it off the album."[4]
Following hints of a new release from Lamar's label Top Dawg Entertainment, and allegedly aided by NBA player LeBron James's public request to TDE head Anthony Tiffith that Lamar's untitled work be released,[5] untitled unmastered first surfaced on Spotify on March 3, containing eight untitled tracks but without an apparent release date.[6][7] The project was officially released on the iTunes Store on March 3, 2016. It spans 34 minutes and features eight untitled tracks, each dated. These dates indicate that the songs were written and recorded at various points between 2013 and 2016.[8] Later that day, Lamar confirmed that the tracks were unfinished demos from To Pimp a Butterfly.[9] In an interview with Spin, vocalist Anna Wise, while recalling the demos that appear on untitled unmastered, claims she knew of the compilation album's existence for an undisclosed amount of time, and was asked to keep it a secret until its release.[10] untitled unmastered was released to digital retailers and streaming services on March 4. The physical CD release of its explicit edition will follow on March 11, while an edited version is due out March 18.

DAMN. That’s the name of the new Kendrick Lamar album out this Friday. Kendrick took to Twitter early this morning to share the cover art, which you can see above, and the tracklist, which is copied below. In addition to the U2 feature we suspected — intriguingly, on a track called “XXX.” — Rihanna is featured on a song called “LOYALTY
