RIP Donna Summer (1948-2012)
Not too much info right now, but apparently Donna Summer has passed away in Florida after a battle with cancer. One report says she was working on a new album, continuing her career in music while apparently deciding to keep her condition a secret. She was 63.

Is there anyone in the Rock n Roll HOF from the disco era(besides the Bee Gees)? I think she deserves to be in there. The Mamas and Papas are in there and they had a short career together.

Did not like disco when it came out. I grew to like it, though. "Bad Girls" was one of a handful of disco records I owned.

Saw that dude Toure on MSNBC talking about Disco and how the anti-disco movement was a racist and homophobic movement.
Wow. I lived through disco and had fun with the "Disco Sucks" stuff but never saw it as racist (many disco acts were white first of all) or homophobic (was Saturday Night Fever gay?). I just saw it as shitty music taking over the airwaves.
But Donna Summer was quite the babe in her time. Too bad.
I see the mods are all over the forum today with the THREE active Donna Summer threads.

Entertainment Tonight reported she died of Lung Cancer. She was diagnosed 10 months ago and only her immediate family knew about it.

"Love To Love You Baby" was a big part of my formative years. At that age, I may not have known yet what sex looked like or felt like, but I sure as hell knew what it sounded like!

RIP.
I got to work with her briefly when she sang the "Star Spangled Banner" at Fenway Park (1999 All-Star game). She was real pro and very nice (no diva moments). And she did a great job in a tough environment, singing acapella with a huge ballpark delay going on. On top of that, she even extended the final notes by a few seconds, so that the end of the song was perfectly timed to the Air Force fly-by.
