Bad Religion
Off!
King Rat
Ogden Theater
Denver
King Rat is a local band, not too bad, but pretty boring on stage.
Off! was a big surprise, and definitely good. If you're into old punk, check them out. Ex members of Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Rocket from the Crypt
Bad Religion was good, although the sound wasn't great. This was the first stop of their two-night "Battle of the Centuries" shows. The first night was only 20th century songs, the second night was only 21st century songs. We went to the first night, which was great setlist-wise because I'm far more familiar with those songs.

Brit Floyd. A Pink Floyd cover band. Really enjoyed it. Very talented musicians, and a great stage show using the same type of screens that Pink Floyd uses. Lasers too!

Kacey Musgraves- Wearing the shortest skirt I have ever seen, and taking near 90 minutes after the opening act to show up, the sexy, spunky, and chatty Texas native was in fine form. Her band members were tops, presumably all Nashville veterans, and she did almost her whole studio album and a few very odd covers-"These Boots Are Made for Walking," "Happy Trails," and "No Scrubs." Though not a powerhouse singer, she has a nice set of pipes which carried well with the mic, and had a very nice rapport with the audience, sharing anecdotes about people she'd met around town, and being extremely gracious to the shouting fans in the front rows. The music itself didn't deviate hugely from the album's arrangements, but was very nicely played, and she had a very fun, relaxed atmosphere. She has a mouth on her too, boy , cussed quite a bit . A very fun show, and at least now I've spent some time at a concert which plays pop music so I'm in the same universe as the rest of the population for a few hours.

Saw Mushroomhead/Doyle last night at the Whiskey in Hollywood. It was a great show! My friends kept asking me if Doyle was on steroids, because at 50 years of age there's no way he could be that ripped naturally and he's a vegan, too.
What did trip me out about Mushroomhead is that they did no encore and I was standing near the band stage/dressing room door and saw that Skinny (drummer) took his mask off and sat it out for like 20 minutes and Roberto Diablo (custom percussion) filled in behind the kit for the rest of the show. I never did see Skinny get behind the drum kit for the rest of the show but my friends say that he came back but stuck to the percussion instead.
I had a great time.

Nate Gluck is an old friend of mine (we're not terribly close, but we used to hang back in the '90s), and while he's not out of the woods yet, I'm glad he's getting better, and the support he's been getting has been tremendous, and a real testament to what a great guy he is.

Took my daughter to the The Used last night at the Observatory. She's clearly following in her father's footsteps getting turned on to nice angry music in her youth . I'm only a casual fan, but the show was incredible. We were right on the barricade and off to one side, which was good since there was moshing towards the center of the stage most of the show. We got turned on to another band called Marmozets from the UK. We actually met them at a music in-store appearance earlier in the day. Cool thing is nobody really knew they were supposed to be there so we got to talk to the band for about 30 minutes and take photos before we left for the show. Great experience. My daughter definitely has inherited my music gene.

Went to see Testament and Exodus in their "Dark Roots of Thrash II" tour. Testament played most of their first two albums, The Legacy and The New Order, in their entirety, along with the title track from Practice What You Preach. Pretty good show. I was just a few feet from Alex Skolnick tearing it up on guitar, the best solos I've ever seen live.

Nightwish-Sabaton-Delain at the Agora in Cleveland on 4/17.
Really enjoyed all 3 bands tremendously. I'd never seen Sabaton before - they were really energetic and fun. I'm a fan now.

Faith No More @ the Observatory last night. They played the entire new album (sans one song) and a host of classic tracks. Stellar show.

Saw Death Angel and Cavalera Conspiracy (Sepultura brothers' band) on Friday night. Crowd was a little light, so thankfully only one crowd surfer and a mild mosh pit. I think people were still put off the previous week for Testament/Exodus when the club sold 900 tickets for the 500 capacity venue, and had to turn a bunch of people away when the fire marshall arrived.
Death Angel played mostly new material from the last couple albums, only 1 or 2 tracks from their 80s material. Cavalera Conspiracy played a decent mix of both CC and Sepultura material.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
I was at the Morning Musume concert at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square last night.
Great show!
9 years I've been a fan and they finally come to New York--only their second appearance in America. (I was at their first--L.A. in July 2009, and only one member of the group back then is still in the group.)

Waterboys in Boston. I've seen them more than any other band--seven times, maybe? Dang, Mike Scott puts a heck of group of musicians together every time. New material is really strong. This is pretty representative of their shows:

Nightwish, Sabaton and Delain at the Greek on Friday. Great show. Wished Nightwish would of played "Nemo" and "Wish I Had An Angel" though.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
Manic Street Preachers at The Fonda in Hollywood, where they played the entirety of their 3rd album The Holy Bible for it's 20th anniversary, followed by a "best of" set. They just barreled through their incendiary set with barely a pause to breath and no bullshit encore. It's ridiculous how good they are, and James Dean Bradfield (singer/guitar) must be some kind of savant, both singing and playing leads on these complex song at the same time.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
Saw Local H at a small venue last friday and they were great. Even though they are only known for 2-3 songs, they have a great catalog.
After the show, picked up a vinyl copy of their new album "Hey Killer" for $10 and got Scott to sign it for me. Great album, by the way. Best rock record I've heard in quite some time
