Also met the lead singer of a local Houston band called Oceans of Slumber. This girl can sing.

Thinking about checking them out live on the 26th.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Finally got around to seeing Sleater-Kinney. Awesome show. Fred Armisen came out during the encore and they did a killer cover of Rock Lobster.

Phish at Madison Square Garden during the New Years run. Holy shit. Phenomenal show. Might have been borderline flashbacks happening.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

I saw the London Royal Philharmonic perform Mozart and Tchaikovsky with Pinchas Zuckerman. Had wonderful seats. Normally not the sort of thing one would post here. But then this happened :

Hearing aid brings Royal Philharmonic show to screeching halt at Smith Center

LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) — Since it first opened back in 2012, the Smith Center in Las Vegas has hosted numerous performing groups, musicians, and artists from a variety of genres.

Sunday was no different as the center welcomed the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from London.

However, during this particular performance, Sunday's audience received something in addition to beautiful music. Many described it as a high-pitched screech.

Dr. Tim Hunsaker of Desert Valley Audiology is an expert in hearing aids. He demonstrated what guests probably heard.

"If the sound escapes out of the ear at all, it actually goes back into the microphone and causes what's known as a feedback loop," said Hunsaker. "It's the same with any audio system."

At one point in the concert, a member of the Philharmonic reportedly stood and shouted at the audience.

Among the guests in the crowd, that day was News 3's Tom Hawley.

"All of a sudden you hear a woman's voice from the orchestra say, 'could you please turn down your hearing aid?' said Hawley. "I've been to many, many concerts over the years... never seen anything like that happen.

According to Dr. Hunsaker, most modern hearing aids have features in them that will try to detect feedback and reduce it and eliminate it, but some don't and that's likely what happened.

A Smith Center spokesperson confirmed the incident and said it lasted through the first half of the performance. It turns out someone's hearing aid had fallen to the ground and once it was finally located by Smith Center staff the issue was resolved.

"During this weekend's performance of the Royal Philharmonic, a high pitched ringing was heard from the audience during the first act. Our front of house staff confirmed that the noise was coming from a hearing aid that had slipped out of place," said John McCoy, Director of Performance Marketing at the Smith Center. "Between the front of house staff and patrons surrounding the man they were able to identify the man and alert him to the noise. The issue was resolved by intermission and the high pitched ringing sound was eliminated for the second act."

Cage The Elephant at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA. We got there at 7pm when the doors opened and it was way insane crowded. I've never seen it that crowded and was with the wife so I bought a front row balcony table (basically a guaranteed min F&B). Had a way fun time since I had to eat and drink up to get my money's worth.

The great Robyn Hitchcock last night.

(Does anyone know who Robyn is anymore?)

He played a 3-song Bowie encore. Quicksand, Soul Love, The Prettiest Star

Queensryche / Meytal / Halcyon Way @ Bogarts in Cincy (1/27/16)

It was good to see Scott Rockenfield back behind a bigger drum kit and looking like he's having fun again.

Saw Wilco for the third time Wednesday night. Just picked up tickets for Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band in June. Now I'm just waiting for the Fenway Park tickets for Pearl Jam to go on sale.

Power Trip, Deafheaven, Anthrax, and Lamb of God at Hollywood Palladium. Randy from LOG came out and sang with Deafheaven on Dream House to close their set. Very cool moment. I had a blast in LOG's pit. Anthrax were cool to see as they were the last of the big four I hadn't seen (not a huge fan).

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Friday night, I saw Slayer, Testament and Carcass.

I was up in front of the stage, but when I took out my digital camera to record video of the last Carcass song, security swarmed on me like I was holding a grenade. They escorted me off the floor, requested my ID, wrote my info down, and gave me a scolding about how I'm not allowed to record video.

There were people taking pictures and recording video with their phones, but I think my pocket camera (Sony RX100M2) rubbed them wrong in a big way.

My daughter was able to record songs for me up in the balcony. She said that security up in the balcony ducked under her to not obstruct her videos.

Not a fan of Slayer, really dig Carcass, and Testament live was one of the biggest surprises at Riot Fest. They put on a fantastic show.

I saw Testament headline last year where they played their first two albums in their entirety. That was a great show.

This Testament show was disappointing since Alex Skolnik had a conflict, so they had a replacement who I wouldn't even had guessed that his guitar was plugged in.

At the other show, I was up front just under Alex and it was amazing to watch his finger work on all of the solos. This was a video from my phone

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Yeah. The replacement was Glenn Drover (ex-Megadeth). I didn't know Skolnick wasn't playing until they hit the stage, and I wasn't happy.
You could tell it was the first night of the tour. Carcass had no vocals for the first song, although I thought they were the best band of the night. No talking, no bullshit, just song after song. And Bill Steer is a fantastic guitarist. The Testament sound was terrible. You couldn't hear Drover's guitar (as you mentioned), and they were having a lot of issues with feedback. And Slayer were Slayer. I've been watching them for 30 years now, and they always put on a good show. But I'll not bother going into the usual grumbles I have that they're not as good as they used to be, etc. etc.
There was also a fight towards the end of the Slayer set just by us at the front right of the stage. I haven't seen a fight at a metal show for probably 20 years. That was funny.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Nightwish / Delain / Sonata Arctica
2/25/16 - Express Live - Columbus, OH

First time I have seen Sonata Arctica, and was pleasantly surprised with a good set. Delain was good, but their bass player was absent and had to have a fill in.

Nightwish show was great. Floor is MUCH more comfortable in the band since I last saw them about a year ago in Cleveland. This show blew away the Cleveland show (which was good itself).

I'll be seeing these bands in March. I took a look at Nightwish's setlist and it looks like they are leaving off "Wish I Had An Angel" and "Over The Hills and Far away" again. Those two are my dad and I's favorite songs and the songs that got us into them. They didn't play them in when we saw them in May and my dad was disappointed that they didn't play at least one of them. Looks like he'll be disappointed again, unless they surprise us. Don't know what they have against those songs.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

They did both of those when I saw them with Anette in 2012, and I know Floor did "Wish I Had an Angel" at Wacken 2013, so I suppose it's possible. They don't tend to mix things up much, though. They just have a pretty deep catalog.

In other news, Anette got beat up when someone tried to rob her a couple days ago.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Iron Maiden 2/28 at Mandalay Bay (Vegas). Really fun show, great stage and effects. Band sounded great, Bruce sounded like nothing happened to him. Initially I was pissed they were not playing anywhere in Texas, but this was great. Was like going to Vegas for a convention, tons of Maiden stuff going on. Saw Ed Force One land at the airport, saw the Iron Maidens on the 27th (good cover band and 3 of them are pretty hot).

Just saw MUTEMATH at The Wiltern last night - amazing show! If you have a chance, go! They're so good, and so much fun. Their drummer is insane! (unfortunately, he got cropped from my pic below)

Took the family to see Prince in Oakland on March 4. Just him and his piano. Amazing show. For every cringe-worthy antic Prince has done in his career, his ability to entertain makes it all forgivable.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

The Who at Boston Garden last night. I wasn't planning on going, but I'm a moderate fan, had never seen them, and had a coworker who couldn't make the show and sold me her tickets pretty cheap.

I'm more of a fan of 60's British Invasion Who than I am of 70's hard rock Who, but I have to say, for a couple of 70 year old guys, they can still deliver and they really rocked out.

Great sound, Townshend seems closer to 55 than 70, and Daltrey's voice is still reasonably strong. The younger musicians filled things out nicely while still remaining in the background. My buddies and I were all really impressed.
