Re: The Shins: Port of Morrow - New Album in March

My local record store had it out Saturday so I picked it up. I've only listened to half of it so far but it's really good. Better than their last album.

This is a must purchase for me.
Bonus tracks on Amazon? The listing I see doesn't show what songs are on the cd release.

I think they may be from an import release. The bonus tracks I have heard are:

1. Pariah King
2. The Waltz is Over

I like both of them and think one of them or maybe both could've replaced a couple songs on the record.

Amazon has track listings now and no mention of those songs.

That's weird. I believe one might be a b-side to a single. They definitely are not on the American version in stores.

Pariah King is available iTunes. I agree that it's better than a few songs on the album like Fall of '82 and For a Fool.

Why is this not on Spotify, when their other albums are?

The Shins performed on David Letterman the other night.

After the show, they did a 1 hour and 5 minute concert in studio. It's fun and you can view at the Letterman/CBS website.

A good album, maybe a great album, but not a great Shins album.

I really like this one. I never thought The Shins were a great band to begin with, so I'm satisfied with very good.

Just a heads up. Marc Maron interviewed James Mercer on WTF this week and there's an acoustic performance of "Simple Song" at the end. Not a bad listen.

Has anyone seen them live? They're playing Sydney in July and am wondering if I should go. I'm getting a ticket no matter what, since it's going to sell out and I can always make my money back.

Re: The Shins: Port of Morrow - New Album in March

I saw them at Coachella, and they were the only band that I thought sounded much better on record. Something about them felt so, I don't know, lifeless. But it might be different in a smaller show filled only with their fans as opposed to Radiohead fans waiting to see a glimpse of Thom Yorke.

I thought their live show didn't sound all that good either. I'm hoping it's just because of the huge venue.

Saw them live when they were actually a band and not James Mercer and a bunch of hired hipsters 10 years younger than him. They kicked ass pretty good and put on a tight and entertaining show. I wouldn't be surprised if Mercer starts doing tantric yoga and whining about the rain forest next.

Re: The Shins: Port of Morrow - New Album in March

Saw them last night and thought they were really good. I'm not the rabid Shins fan some of you are so take that for what its worth. Their chemistry on stage was a bit odd though. Felt like the James Mercer Band. The bassist and drummer seemed to have good chemistry together but the chick guitarist was almost off the stage she was so far to the side.
