Freeway is up on her MySpace page. Sounds like it would fit in fine with The Forgotten Arm album. Glad to hear.

You may like Pete Yorn's first two albums "Musicforthemorningafter" and "Day I Forgot"

That LE is sick! Its up on Amazon for $16.99. Already pre-ordered mine!

A buddy of mine sent me a review CD already...its pretty damn good! I only listened to it once, but I plan on having it playing in my car for the next week. Very B#2ish. A quick look around the internet and I see its already been leaked as well.

Yep, been listening to the leaked CD for a few days. I really like it.

There are 3 songs that haven't grabbed me yet, but I find that always happens with her CDs... a few songs don't do anything for me the first few listens, and then after a few more spins they become some of my favorites.

Will be buying the CD on release day.

A few angles of the Smilers packaging:

I wish all artists would put as much thought into their packaging as Aimee does. I almost look forward to the artwork as much as I do her music.

Me too. The new Elvis Costello package is pathetic. The notes are written in a font that's too small to read without a magnifying glass and the pictures are too small to even tell who's in them.

I guess we'll have to wait for 2 or 3 reissues of Momofuku for a readable version.

It's out today. It's 9.99 at Best Buy for the regular packaging. Don't know how much the SE will be. Looking forward to hearing this.

edit: Looks like it's $14.99. Will probably get that.

Really solid album. Great songs. I think Aimee is an artist like James Taylor who will be pretty much the same throughout her career. She is not the type to change a lot. But her albums are great for Sunday mornings.

None of the stores around here have the special edition and they wonder why people shop online. I just ordered it from Amazon.

I found a potential problem with "moving" this album.

Me : I was looking for the new album from Aimee Mann
CS: OK, what's the name?
Me: I can't really say it?
CS : You can't?
Me: It's "A-with-a-circle, number-sign, ampersand, asterisk, exclamation mark Smilers", I guess.
CS: We'll look it up by aritst.

Anyway, the BB only had one copy of the LE and none of the regular. The LE rang up $16.99, not $14.99 like online. I told the check out guy that it should be on sale. Fortunately, it looks just like the $9.99 version in this week's print ad. Got it for that price. Sweet. I like the packaging. It's not too fancy, but it is fun to hold and look at (if not exactly essential). Wish it had a bonus track or something. So far I'm loking it, especially the more up-tempo numbers.

It's really just being called "Smilers" in the press, and you can look it up that way too.

And, yes, it's a great album. I'm just less than thrilled that the "deluxe" is deluxe in packaging only and it's Itunes that gets the bonus tracks. Aimee runs her own label so that was her decision, not some big, nasty label. Fairly uncool decision, but not too surprising given how she handled Lost In Space: "exclusive" three-song bonus disc from her site to be bought through Mu$ictoday, which was found bundled with the album on release day in Best Buy for essentially half the price (after shipping/handling from Musictoday was added in,) then not a year later she releases the deluxe version with the same exclusive songs and a few more (which admittedly was beautiful packaging and an excellent second disc, but still . . . ) I love her music but I don't think either of these moves was particularly fan-friendly.

I seem to recall the one last year being funnier, but I still liked it.

re: Aimee Mann --- Discussion Thread

My favorite of hers has always been "Lost In Space". Lots of great tunes on that album. Magnolia is a collection of songs taken from the film of the same name. It has "Save Me" and "Wise Up" which were minor hits.
