Re: R.E.M. Appreciation Thread (w/ Favorite Album Poll & Post Break-up News)
Surprised Fables of The Reconstruction is as low as it is in the poll. I think it's their best album by far (said as a guy who dumped them after Green).
Has there ever been a band that... "alienated" its fans more than R.E.M.? By that I mean that people have been accusing them of "selling out" since day one. I grew up in Atlanta, but didn't really get in to them until Pageant... which didn't really matter, because I would have been too young to go to their early shows anyway. However, I knew several older guys who "saw R.E.M. at the 40 Watt for $2", and almost every one of them was of the "R.E.M. sold out after Murmur" variety. It seems like with every new album the band gained 100 new listeners but lost 30 old ones. I know it probably happens with all bands, but R.E.M. fans always seem to be the most vocal about it.

Re: R.E.M. Appreciation Thread (w/ Favorite Album Poll & Post Break-up News)
It's hard to search for three letter words so I'm using this thread that I managed to find, but anyways my R.E.M. DVD collection is nearing completion and it looks like the only thing I need is Tourfilm.
First: was it included in any other releases?
Second: if not, the DVDs I see on eBay all seem to be non US releases, does anyone know which one to get to play in the US? I use a PS5 as my main player, as info.
thanks

Re: R.E.M. Appreciation Thread (w/ Favorite Album Poll & Post Break-up News)
I see one overpriced copy of the U.S. version on ebay at the moment ($50+). The DVD came out in the early days of DVD, in a weird cardboard case. Unfortunately the PS5 can't play R2 releases, so you're stuck getting the U.S. release, which will be cheaper than getting even an inexpensive region-free player. So skip over any of those ones in the transparent plastic case and look for one with that black plastic strip along the right edge.

The old style snapper case? I can live with that.
Thanks for the info, I'll keep an eye out.
Also, looking around it seems there was a Live from Austin, TX release I was not aware of, so that's something else to hunt down.
