Re: Metallica announces the finishing of new album...

Right, which is what worries me. Seems an odd preview being as though they definitely sound like they are recording in different studios, lyrics and music aside. This is how they choose to introduce the album? This is the best they have in a 80+ minute album?

I try not to do that, either.

You realize they usually pick the best 30 seconds they can find when they do these sneak peeks.

Re: Metallica announces the finishing of new album...

My thoughts from the depths of page 5:
1. Holy crap, look at those track lengths. 19+ minutes? Prog central. This is the only thing I find mildly interesting here.
2. Neither Lou Reed nor Metalica has done anything I've liked since 1991.
3. I can't take Metallica seriously at all after watching Some Kind of Monster.
4. Dynamic range, Metallica. It matters.

Given all of this, I have no idea why I'm even posting in this thread.

It doesn't hurt to withhold judgment, I promise!

I'll withhold judgement on the final album but I give this as much chance of being a great album as a collaboration between Nine Inch Nails and Josh Grobin.

[Metallica] sounds good. James is awesome.

After listening over & over I'm kinda getting used to Lou. It is poetry after all.

Re: Metallica announces the finishing of new album...

Again, we're listening to a snippet -- a 90 second preview this time -- so it's hard to gauge if this is how the spoken parts are being handled for the entirety of this album or not. Lou's voice, to me at least, lacks intensity given the heavy subject matter and accompanying music. James and Metallica sound pretty good so far.

Spoken parts can work like Iggy Pop's narration in White Zombie's Black Sunshine for example.

This sounds self indulgent. Like they're trying to be artsy for critical approval.

And for comparison, here's an early preview from Death Magnetic http://youtu.be/EH1hYJmmm7I

Re: Metallica announces the finishing of new album...

This is Lou Reed poetry

The slide
I've got nothing about gay guys
But, faggots, just like a ****.
Years ago, wherever we could spot them,
Handels down, Alabama, small town
We'd take the ha, ha, so ha, I he'd
Do the slide
Do the slide
Baby you better slide

Now they got their own baths, yay,
With entertainers, and shit
From the opera. Man.
Famous names. Man
Big ones
But we know what they do
It's not the same thing
It's guys like me, who, who, do, do, who,
Hate them, beat them, Do, Do
Want to beat them. Do.

They want to beat them
They want to gang a suck off
Show them that they wanna, Bang! go,
Taka a slide

Man you better, you understand
What I'm saying, DECIDE

I only let a lady
Put a needle in my arm
It's too intimate for cats
Like sex with a rag on.

When she does it without a tie, hey
She's one of the guys. Man
She don't have to Slide. Who
Except for the big ones.

Or, you know, this:

I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man
When I put a spike into my vein
And I'll tell ya, things aren't quite the same
When I'm rushing on my run
And I feel just like Jesus' son
And I guess that I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know

I have made the big decision
I'm gonna try to nullify my life
'Cause when the blood begins to flow
When it shoots up the dropper's neck
When I'm closing in on death
And you can't help me not, you guys
And all you sweet girls with all your sweet talk
You can all go take a walk
And I guess that I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know

I wish that I was born a thousand years ago
I wish that I'd sail the darkened seas
On a great big clipper ship
Going from this land here to that
In a sailor's suit and cap
Away from the big city
Where a man can not be free
Of all of the evils of this town
And of himself, and those around
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know

Heroin, be the death of me
Heroin, it's my wife and it's my life
Because a mainer to my vein
Leads to a center in my head
And then I'm better off than dead
Because when the smack begins to flow
I really don't care anymore
About all the Jim-Jim's in this town
And all the politicians makin' busy sounds
And everybody puttin' everybody else down
And all the dead bodies piled up in mounds

'Cause when the smack begins to flow
Then I really don't care anymore
Ah, when the heroin is in my blood
And that blood is in my head
Then thank God that I'm as good as dead
Then thank your God that I'm not aware
And thank God that I just don't care
And I guess I just don't know
And I guess I just don't know

Sorry, but if I can do it, it's not "poetry" or "art".

I think anyone else could have a better delivery than Lou Reed on this stuff. Horrible. HORRIBLE.

The music's "ok", but the delivery of the vocals is flat and BORING.

I'm siding with the Dictators here and going on record saying "I think Lou Reed is a creep!".

Well. That's one release I don't think I have to pre-order anymore.

Re: Metallica announces the finishing of new album...

I see the album was co-produce and mixed by Greg Fidelman. I just saved myself $20. After Death Magnetic and Slayer's World Painted Blood I won't purchase anything with him involved.

Re: Metallica announces the finishing of new album...

Pretty cool riff & the music aint bad. But Lou Reed ruins it. Why bother with this? Its already been 3 years since Death Magnetic, should have came out with a new fucking METALLICA album instead of this nonsense.

Just to clear things up I was being facetious calling it poetry. I think Reed has done some great stuff. 40 years ago.

My favorite comment on YouTube. "You have to give Metallica credit. They always find new ways to fail."

Exactly. Why does every damn Metallica album have to take 5 years to make anymore?
Jason Newsted quits this band because Hetfield won't allow him to do side projects and then they do this???!
