Yea, I dont care for studio footage. Last I saw was the watershed one and the troll guitarist freaked me out But Im wondering if they do the watershed SE with 5.1

On that note... I had preordered that edition RIGHT when it went up on the End Records, it was suppose to come with something and an autographed booklet. I didnt get that at all, I was super pissed and they charged me the more expensive price for the non preorder bonus... I argued it but those fuckers would budge... I totally forgot about that incident till now.

I hope the bonus tracks are on the cd this time. The Watershed bonus songs were only on the dvd and it was a pain in the ass to get them ripped so I could actually listen to them.

I hate that shit, too. Cradle of Filth's "Thornography" was like that, too, with the cover of "Stay" by Shakespeare's Sister only available on the DVD.

I ordered the deluxe Watershed from The End and it came with the SE CD & a gatefold vinyl copy of the album with the 2 bonus tracks on a CD and an autographed insert poster. I heard people who ordered just the autographed CD had issues actually getting one, but it looks like the deluxe sets were easier to come by. I'm curious to see what configurations they have for this one.

They don't ship to U.S., but I'd expect the SE details for us to come out shortly.

Pretty interesting. Going to take sometime to digest this but I think it has potential.

At least they're including a download card for the bonus tracks so you don't have to find a way to rip them from the DVD. I still can't believe "Derelict Herds" was left off Watershed - one of my favorite Opeth tracks.

Re: Opeth - Heritage (9/20/11)

I agree with Mike that death metal vocals have become a bit of a dead end for this band. I like that song but it's very prog. It's definitely different than anything they've done before. Sounds a bit like a midpoint between King Crimson and Amon Duul II.

Re: Opeth - Heritage (9/20/11)

I'm curious to hear more of the album. One of the things I've always liked most about them is the juxtaposition of Michael's clean and death vocals, and how they've intertwined both in the music using the vocals to create dynamics in their sound. That said, I can totally see that the death vocals would be confining for him musically. On first listen, I love the trippy prog vibe, but I'm hoping that there isn't quite so much prominence of the mellotron on the whole album. It just gets grating to me after awhile. I guess I'm just a guitar guy...

In any event, thanks for sharing the song

Nice! Thats basically what I wanted when I talked previously about what I wanted Damnation to be. The keyboard funk is something I can do without but I havent been this excited for an Opeth CD since well... Damnation!

Looks like Heritage leaked today (along with the new Dream Theater). I'll let you know my thoughts once I get a chance to give the album a spin.

Awesome - can't believe it took this long. Can't wait to hear them. I have the SE releases of both coming but don't think I can wait. Gotta look for Arch/Matheos too.

Re: Opeth - Heritage (9/20/11)

It's different. As expected it has a big '70s-prog influence. I knew there wasn't going to be any harsh vocals, but I wasn't really prepared for how soft the album is. There's very little metal in it at all. I like it, but I'm not in love with it at first. "The Devil's Orchard" and "Folklore" are currently the two stand-out tracks for me (ignoring the hauntingly beautiful piano intro "Heritage"). I was definitely hoping for something more, but I'm not pissed that I shelled out money for it.

Regardless, this will be getting a lot of rotation for me, and we'll see if it grows on me over the next week.

Re: Opeth - Heritage (9/20/11)

I agree with you on the soft production. Even knowing about the lack of harsh vocals, I'm a bit surprised that it barely contains any heavy riffage or double bass. Feels a lot like Damnation 2, with some extra psychedelia and keyboard thrown in. I like it, but it feels incomplete being as mellow as it is. At least one heavy track would've helped round out the package.

Re: Opeth - Heritage (9/20/11)

I was a bit concerned, as I like the intro track and The Devil's Orchard (Like, didn't love), but I can say pretty much tracks 5-10 really made up for a "slow" start for me. I like it more than Ghost Reveries, for sure, and it may be my favorite release of their since Blackwater Park. I'm even more pumped to see them in about 3 weeks in Nashville.

Ok, I'm trying to listen to this with an open mind, really I am. But ... UGH. I think I just don't like Michael's voice anymore. I used to think his clean vocals sounded really cool, when just used as highlights in between growls. But I can't stand an entire album of this. His voice sounds so pretentious now.

Jury is still out for me. While Opeth is one of the few 'death metal' bands that I listen to, I always appreicated Michael;s ability to meld the growls with the more 'clean' vocal parts. That being said, I thought "Damnation" was a masterpiece for them. "Heritage" certainly sees them stretching these muscles a little farther and it is a very good throwback to 70's-era prog rock. As has been stated by others, this could be a polarizing album for the band. I will keep an open mind and see if this departure represents Opeth turning a corner that will continue to offer us some interesting twists and turns for the albums ahead.

Mikes clean vox have been annoying for awhile. Especially that fucking tremolo he does ALL THE TIME! It was worse on Watershed on that damn song that begins with him humming, he does the damn tremolo while humming... Puke

Re: Opeth - Heritage (9/20/11)

I usually just keep my mouth shut when concerning a band or genre I just don't like, but...as an open Opeth hater, this is really bad. Even for Opeth.

And yeah, so what, I used the stereotypical "shouldn't-say-it-but-gonna-say-it-anyway" premise for a troll-looking post, but I truly do normally just shut the hell up about it. I couldn't do it this time, it's so atrociously bad, but at the same time, I have nothing else to say about it either, so I guess the legion of die hard Opeth/Mikael fanboys (which may be a smaller field after this album's premiere lol) can bring on the also-stereotypical replies of "well if you know better than just shut up and don't come here to troll, you troll" that I probably won't ever actually see.

Re: Opeth - Heritage (9/20/11)

There are parts that I really like (like the end of Folklore), but I do believe this is their "St. Anger".

Very unfocused, meander-y songs - lots of patchwork songwriting. Pretty sad that this and DT are 0-for-2 on big releases this week. Maybe Arch/Matheos will be worth it.
