New Stevie Nicks

I didn't even know she was recording new material, but she has a new album coming out in a few weeks. And this song is on iTunes this week. It's not a "strong" single, but a very good album track (IMO). The production is quite good and her voice is stronger than ever. The woman still has it. I can't believe it's been 10 years since her last album. Scares me how fast time is flying by now. But that album was fantastic. One of 2001's best IMO. I hope this new one is half as good.

Yep, I really liked her album from 2001. Can't wait to hear the new one.

Re: New Stevie Nicks

Just listened to the entire album. It was kinda meh for me. Nothing horrible, but nothing great either. On first listen, I'd rate it no higher than 6/10.

Is it on AOL or...?

But take a look at 2:29 in the video. It's Reese!

Re: New Stevie Nicks

I've listened to the album a couple of times, and I love it.

I'm going with 8/10, but that's only from a few listens.

Her voice still sounds so amazing. I really love the track "Annabel Lee."

I'll be picking this up tomorrow for sure.

No surprise. He co-wrote and produced the album.

Re: New Stevie Nicks

Fantastic album.

Her previous album, Trouble in Shangri-La, was great until halfway through when it completely fell apart with country pop sludge that she didn't even write, but this is better than I could have ever expected. Her voice is more supple and gorgeous than it has been in 20 years (the vocals on Moonlight could have been ripped from the Bella Donna sessions).

Those Buckingham harmonies on Soldier's Angel are truly haunting. Italian Summer is a real stunner and You May Be the One is already a favorite of mine. Cheaper Than Free is a throwaway, but 12 out of 13 is impressive. Great, great stuff.

On a side note buy the last two Lindsey Buckingham albums Under the Skin and Gift of Screws if you missed them. Both brilliant works from the true genius in Fleetwood Mac. The man practically reinvented the way he plays guitar and the results are stunning.

^ According to my co-worker that is a Nicks fanatic, Lindsey is releasing a new album this year. He's definitely working on one.

He did a one-off show a couple weeks back in California where he performed six of the new songs. They're all up on YouTube. It was mainly a showcase for prospective labels now that he's no longer with Warners, but he didn't get the industry turnout that I'm sure he would have liked. The show was taped for a DVD release alongside the new album in September, which he said he'll release himself if he can't find a label.

He also did an ASCAP interview the other night where he said songwriting is his least favorite thing to do, that he prefers just performing and producing.

Who? I don't see anyone else at that spot in the video, just some chick(s) who appear throughout - don't know who they are though.

I disagree 100%. Regardless of who wrote the songs, this was her most solid solo album to date. And I haven't heard the new one yet.

Better than Bella Donna and The Wild Heart?

It started off with an absolute bang with the title track, Candlebright, Sorcerer, and Planets of the Universe (even though the extended version blows the album cut out of the water), but once that awful Every Day pap rolled around, what a woeful mess it became. There were a few gems amongst the crap (namely It's Only Love and Fall From Grace), but it's hard to believe that it took her four years to record such a muddled piece of work. It had more producers than Stevie has shawls and I think you can certainly tell when you listen to it.

In Your Dreams is magnificent. Definitely tied with The Wild Heart as her best solo work for me.

You do know you are in the minorty here. The album was critically acclaimed. From allmusicguide.com

You do know that I don't really care, right? Give me her Klonopin-induced ramblings on The Other Side of the Mirror before her soulless attempts at radio hits on Trouble in Shangri-La any day. At least it had personality.

The fact is that she had an incredible wealth of great songs written for Trouble in Shangri-La, even recorded a kick-ass version of Thrown Down with Buckingham, but decided to include schmaltzy tunes like Every Day, Too Far from Texas, That Made Me Stronger (an ode to writing her own songs that was hilariously co-written), Love Changes, and Love Is (which had a great demo, but was produced so melodramatically as to be unbearable). Bombay Sapphires? It's okay, but the original version slated for the album had much more room to breathe and wasn't smothered to death with every sound she could think of tossing onto the track. Planets of the Universe was unfairly neutered, almost to the point of pure destruction; even if she wanted to remove the "You will remember..." verse, what the hell was her rationale for deleting that incredible last minute of the original studio recording?

To me, the first four songs are an awful tease of the album that could have been. Like I said, I think there are good songs amongst the ruins (It's Only Love, Fall from Grace, Bombay Sapphires), but it just went horribly wrong.
