A local Detroit tv station said she was the first white act signed to Motown. I thought it was Rare Earth?

It was the Messengers in 1967. Maybe the radio station meant she was the first white female solo artist.

If so, wrong again:

That's kind of odd there's a pic on the album cover of that artist when they distinctly made the decision to not put Teena on the cover of her first album because she was white.

I remember they did the same thing to Madonna. No one she was white until her first video came out.

I loved her stuff! This is sad for me, vale.

I never heard that. On the cover of her 1st lp she is on there.
Unless her first song was EVERYBODY and that was a 12" single with no picture of her on the cover.

Teena just had an "Unsung" episode (On TV1) which poised for a bigger comeback. Too bad. I'll always know her best for "Fire & Desire".
