The vaguest "what is this song" thread ever...

I've almost started then deleted this thread several times, but it's driving me crazy, and I give up. Here's a desperate Hail Mary.

I was in the gym the other day, and over the gym's radio station, I heard a song I really like. The only way I can describe it was that it was "Peter Gabriel-esque", but it was NOT Peter Gabriel.

What I know:
1. It sounds musically like a Peter Gabriel song.

2. It's fairly recent, not from the 90's or 80's. I'd guess it's from within the last 3 years.

3. This gym's radio only plays songs that were singles or popular to some extent, so it had to have decent radio time at some point.

4. The vocals were male.

Help me, Obi Wan. You're my only hope.

Was it intense? I'm pretty sure this is it:

Wow, good luck with this one!

Do you not even remember any lyrics from the song? If not, do you have the notes in your head or something? I'd advise you uploading an MP3 of yourself singing the "duh duh duhhhhhs", so we can all have a good laugh.

at Ky-Fi.

Nope, that's all I've got. Hey, I know it's a long shot. I actually broke my toe later in the workout, or I'd be back up there trying to hear it again.

Could it be a Vampire Weekend song?

They kind of dabble in the same pseudo afro pop that Gabriel once experimented with. Not sure their singer sounds like him though.

Yeah. Possibly this one?

It even mentions Peter Gabriel in the lyrics.

Or else, Peter Gabriel released a cover album this year, could it be him doing someone else's song?

Re: The vaguest "what is this song" thread ever...

Hmm, nope, that's definitely not it. That Vampire Weekend is a little more Paul Simon-esque than what I think of as Peter Gabriel. I'm thinking of Solsbury Hill-style Peter Gabriel.

Ah well, guys. Thanks anyway. I figured it was a long shot. If I could remember the lyrics or the melody, this would be infinitely easier.

It's probably "Hey Soul Sister" by Train.

God I was going to say that but the thought of someone thinking that wretched pile of shit sounds like Peter Gabriel makes my head explode.

Is it possibly this?

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2FQO1fj1MJU?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2FQO1fj1MJU?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

I always thought it had a Peter Gabriel-esque sound to it, and it's something from the last few years that was a hit and would still be getting radio play.

Yeah, when you get that "what is this song?" feeling, you need to latch onto some lyrics immediately. Critical to the search later.

No way they're playing that in a gym. It's a bunch of dirges. Would cause the exercise to screech to a halt.

Re: The vaguest "what is this song" thread ever...

Was it someone else covering a Peter Gabriel song?

I'll Scratch Yours is a concept album developed by Peter Gabriel, giving artists whom he covered on his 2010 album Scratch My Back a medium to release covers of Gabriel's songs, which was part of the original intent of the Scratch My Back idea.

"I'll Scratch Yours" never materialized

Artists refuse to scratch Peter Gabriel's back

Peter Gabriel's 'song swap' project, Scratch My Back ... I'll Scratch Yours, has not materialised as planned, with artists either missing deadlines or refusing to participate

^That Phoenix song is about the least Peter Gabriel sounding song I could possibly imagine.

Going to throw "Screaming Jets" (by Johnny Warman) at you as it had Peter Gabriel doing backing vox. It is an 80s song so it fails on that count but you never know.
