Absolutely, although it's just their most popular singles. I like all three of those songs, but I wouldn't consider any of them to be among Sloan's best.

Not really. The Rush comparisons are just superficial. Triumph had very few prog elements in their style. They were closer to Boston or pre-Jonathan Cain Journey than they were to Rush.

Rush - 2112

Neil Young - Cortez the Killer

I think it was just the fact they were both 3 piece, from Canada and the high vocals (least on the songs Rik Emmett sang).

I saw them live in the mid/late 80's and it was a great show. I'd certainly put "Magic Power", "Hold On" or "Fight the Good Fight" in my Canadian top 100.

This is true, but it's certainly not an argument for their inclusion.

I'm glad that Leonard Cohen made the list, but I'd put "Diamonds in the Mine" on the list before the others. He sings the shit out of that one.

DO YOU MIND IF WE TALK ABOUT BILL Re: The Top 100 Canadian Songs of all-time

I'm from Detroit and one of my favourite Canadian songs is DO YOU MIND IF TALK ABOUT A BILL.
I discovered the song while visiting Montreal a few years ago.
The song is unique too. It's about a Canadian singer's sex change.
I play the video often on youtube. Damn good song it is!

Forward to the 1:20 mark to skip the crappy edited intro.

Or almost anything by this band. Their videos were shit but the music was great.

Especially their cover of Paint it Black.

Two great recent Polaris Award winners

Karkwa off of this year's amazing "Chemins de Verre":

And the lead off track of one of my favorite albums of the past few years, F**ked Up "Chemistry of Common Life":
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ylNWezlt3O4?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ylNWezlt3O4?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Imagine a shoegaze-inspired hardcore punk band fronted by a 300 pound bald guy winning a Grammy. I don't think so. Canadians have got it right.
