The XX
OK, I just tried to do a search for this band with the search engine here but it came up with nothing. I'm guessing since there aren't enough letters. And then I went through 14 pages manually searching for "XX" and again, nothing. Their album was released one year ago this month and there is not one thread about this incredible band? I'm late on the bandwagon myself, but I think they are truly a tremendous talent. And their album is an instant classic (IMO). Their sound and style is a combination of the Joy Division, early New Order, early Cure, Massive Attack and the vocals of Tracey Thorn. They are a very very mellow band but so hypnotic. For those who don't know them, here are two live performances from Later with Jools Holland followed by two of their videos.

Here's their biggest hit on alternative radio. I've heard this for months and never looked to see who it was on my remote:

This one reminds me the most of Massive Attack:

Yup, the album is good stuff. I picked it up earlier this year. I'd be interested to hear a little more up tempo and uplifting pieces on their next album for a change of pace.

A friend introduced me to this band recently. I really dig them.

Re: The XX
Pretty good but way, way overrated. I've tried to finish listening to the album at least fifteen times and I always get bored and put on Minor Threat or something. I find it to be a very monochromatic / one tempo / one feeling type release. Intro and VCR sound so great and then the album just goes nowhere, it just gets sleepy.
Low does this type of stuff much better, IMO. So does Everything but the Girl.

I didn't really buy into the hype the first time around, but yesterday I heard "Angels" on All Songs Considered and instantly fell in love with it.

I think I will have to go back and reevaluate their debut. (I haven't actually heard the whole album, but it felt so since it seems like they were on every podcast I listened to back then.)
I figured there had to be a post about them here, but because of the character minimum I couldn't search for it. So I went to Wikipedia to check the name of the album. It's self-titled. So I looked at the singles and ended up searching for "Islands". Luckily, the last post mentioned it.

I agree with Hiro11 (my ultimate rival) - They are very overrated. I tried to get into this group but I still only like "The Intro".

That single didn't do anything for me, so I'll hold my expectations in check for the new album. I liked the 1st album, very solid....but the only 2 tracks I love on it are "Crystalised" and "Islands"

"The Intro" used as background.

My friend's heard the entire album and says that, while it won't be as good as the first one, it has a fair amount of standout tracks.
So far, the first single isn't doing much for me.
New album drops in September.

Agree. The first single sounds like album filler. Or a B-side.

I like "Angels" better.

Re: The XX
A friend posted Infinity on G+ a few weeks ago and I loved it. Islands was alright, but I've listened to Infinity many times since.
Angels I just heard in here, it is great too. Liked Chained. I like The XX.

I listened to the new album this morning and honestly didn't like it. It's very, very slow, quiet, and frankly boring. I could see others being into it, but it just didn't work for me. Well, I guess it would be good as background music, but it isn't something you listen to and do nothing else. I could picture this album playing in a clothing store at the mall or something.
Their 1st album is definitely superior to this one.

Their second album is good too, it just takes a few more listens to get into:
