As you may know, U2 has released two decent collections of era-based greatest hits, 81-90, and 91-00. I'm looking to make a "fan" version of their 01-10 material and would like to recruit the power of the forum to do so, since I'm not a huge U2 expert.

Basically, the CD should include their singles from that era plus other songs you guys think are great. So we are looking at Atomic Bomb and NLOTH. The singles from those records were:

"All Because of You"
"Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own"
"City of Blinding Lights"
"Window in the Skies"
"Get on Your Boots"
"Magnificent"
"I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight"

I'd also include singles from ATYCLB that are NOT on the previous collection, so Elevation and Walk On.

What other songs from this era did you guys enjoy?

Also, what other songs from ANY era do you really dig that weren't on the previous compilations? I'd like to expand those too.

I don't think it's a popular opinion, but I like "Original of the Species." I think it was a single, because there's an official video for it on YouTube. Then again, I really don't follow singles these days since I don't listen to the radio (for music) or watch whatever channel plays videos now.

My favorite tracks from How to Dismantle were Vertigo, City of Blinding Lights, All Because of You, and Fast Cars. Since it seems like the former two are already to be included, Fast Cars is a necessity. It's just a really fun, tight track, and the fact it was only on the limited/special editions gives it a unique flair.

I was not a fan of No Limit. I've probably listened to it about 5 times. Absolutely hate Sexy Boots, but I found myself liking Crazy Tonight and I recall Stand Up Comedy being decent.

Might be fun to put bonuses like "We Love You" and "Mercy" on it. We Love You was made on the ATYCLB tour and sung one night as a birthday present to Edge. Mercy was supposed to be on No Line, but it slipped through. Supposedly it's going to appear on "Songs of Ascent," which is the Zooropa to No Line's Achtung Baby

Miracle Drug, Unknown Caller, Fez/Being Born, and Kite should be on there.

I'd probably just put on NLOTH as is. Frankly, their work dipped so significantly since Zooropa that I can't imagine a best of this era ever being released.

Many bands have made best of albums out of FAR lower quality material than U2 over the last decade. Just because you don't like their recent albums doesn't mean it's not worthy of a best of release.

insert CD into CD recordable drive.
put "Beautiful Day" in there.
put "Sunday, Bloody, Sunday" in there.
burn cd.

That's all you need.

Yeah, but most of those bands have music that is so far beneath U2 that it isn't a fair comparison.

And really, a best of culled from two albums is pretty paltry to begin with. Two albums from now would be more reasonable.
