The Doors performing in NYC next week

not all of them, but i had to go to Times Square today and there was a billboard that Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger would be performing next week. I think it was by the Marriott Marquis

Manzarek and co have been leeching off The Doors name ever since Morrison died. Yes, their contributions were important to the band, but at some point you have to say "This is our legacy, let it rest." Instead, they get together in various configurations, with various guest singers, and live off nostalgia.

Also cashing in on it all by releasing tons of live cds and horrendous quality stuff like Boot Yer Butt. I listened to some of that and seriously wondered how they could expect money for it.

Depending on one's state of inebriation, if you closed your eyes for the whole show and either danzig or Ian Astbury were singing, it could sound like the old Doors. sorta.

I went to a Doors concert sometime in the early part of the 2000s and I thought it was a great show! Not sure why anyone would begrudge them doing what they love and pleasing countless fans who still have a desire to attend their shows. Some of us weren't born yet when Jim died, and this is as close as we can get to experiencing the real thing. I for one and glad they didn't let their legacy rest.

Re: The Doors performing in NYC next week

I saw Ray and Robbie for the first time back in June. I didn't expect much and was totally blown away. It was a terrific show. Yes, it's only 2 original members, but they have a right to perform the music they made famous. Robbie was playing some SMOKIN' guitar. The music sounded fresh, alive, powerful. Their new singer did his thing and didn't try to mimic Morrison in sound or style, which is fine by me. Hearing those classic songs live and in your face is a great experience. I am SO glad I got to see these two legends in persons. Sure, seeing the original Doors in person back in the day would probably been superior, but what am I supposed to do? Build a time machine? As it is, Ray and Robbie are out there representing and delivering the goods. This is not a moldy oldies nostalgia show. This is rock and roll at its best and the audience CUT LOOSE and everyone in the building had a terrific time.

If Ray and Robbie come to your town give them a chance! You won't be sorry.

I think Ian Astbury did a great job on the reunion. I just wish that lineup had recorded an album of new material.

I would totally go see a show with Ray and Robbie if I had the chance. If Ian was with them all the better! (same with Copeland)
