Re: Your musical extremes

My first attempt took my most beautiful song I know and paired it with the ugliest song I know. But in retrospect, they both fit in the same 'experimental' genre.

So, here's my second attempt at presenting my musical extremes:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hZ9qWpa2rIg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hZ9qWpa2rIg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/svxB1QL1eQs&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/svxB1QL1eQs&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Like several people here, apart from country or rap, I'm pretty open to most music genres. I'll listen to Alizee, then switch over Altar of Plagues, then over to Curtis Mayfield.

Here's an example of a couple of my favorites.

Artesia
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/L0ajYUhAHOI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/L0ajYUhAHOI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

I don't know much about Artesia, but it's become some of my favorite music ever. I discovered them by accident and they almost always end up being the thing I play when I'm going to sleep. It's very beautiful and soothing. This track takes a minute, but once the vocals kick in it gets really excellent.

Now to the extreme side:

Genghis Tron
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NhzgDnZ0ov8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NhzgDnZ0ov8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
A band so chaotic I end up with a headache half the time I listen to them, but I love it.

I loved punk as a teenager, must admit I'm not 'in the know' about the current batch of punk bands.

being more specific in what I like:

classic rock
folk
jazz
R&B
disco
electronic: specifically house, electro, techno, drum and bass, downtempo
classical
opera
new age
movie soundtracks
Broadway show tunes
Indian Bollywood songs
world music: South African music, celtic,
contemporary Chinese/Japanese pop songs - I may have no idea what they are singing, but I dig it.
Chidren's music groups/songs - check out 'The Sippycups' they rule :)

Here are two that are pretty good at being at opposite ends of the spectrum. I video taped both these too for added fun.

Brian Lonbeck (I love all kinds of finger pickers, old school guitar players) & Deke Dickerson
