Interpol (4th album, Q3 2010)

Anyone else a big Interpol fan? One of my favorite indie rock groups. I liked their 3rd album but it was a step down from the previous ones.

The single "Lights" is available for download on their site for free.

Pretty good, has me even more excited for the entire LP.

I bought their debut album in 2002. Haven't listened to it since 2002.

Re: Interpol (4th album, Q3 2010)

Their debut would likely be in my top ten of the 00's (never really thought about that), but each successive recording went a bit down in quality. Still curious to hear this one, though.

Glad to hear it. The last album was a major let down. But their first two releases are in my top ten of last decade.

Looks like pre-orders are up, and on itunes you get barricade as the single when you pre-order.

I love me some interpol

Re: Interpol (4th album, Q3 2010)

Looks like they will be on Letterman tomorrow (Thursday, July 29) night. I'm interested in seeing how they 'feel' without Carlos' aura and gun holster. Hopefully the new album will be tons better than the last.

Re: Interpol (4th album, Q3 2010)

I've listened to the samples online. I like what I'm hearing. Even though Our Love To Admire wasn't as good as Antics, I still enjoyed it. I even liked Paul's side project as Julian Plenti.

I've listened to some live songs on youtube and the new songs sound great. The older songs sound different without Carlos D playing bass - not bad just different.

The album has leaked and it's great! A definite improvement over "Our Love to Admire"

well, yeah, but I'm saying Interpol is way worse than even that one. Still love the first two, though.

Re: Interpol (4th album, Q3 2010)

It's a strong album (the tracks Barricade, Lights, and Summer Well really stand out), but yes, Antics and Turn On The Bright Lights are better.

Sigh, I won't argue it but I adored OLTA. I'd assumed that fans of the first two didn't since they only played one song off of it at their concert last week.

It's not shocking, I often like the oddball album that no one else likes...for instance, I really like Beautiful Garbage which was universally hated for the most part.

Re: Interpol (4th album, Q3 2010)

I usually understand why certain albums are disliked and whatnot, but it boggles my mind that OLTA is hated so much. Sure, I think Interpol's first two albums are better, but I didn't think OLTA was terrible at all. I really enjoyed it, and am at a loss as to why people so strongly dislike it. Maybe it's just me?

Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to the new disc...

Honestly I don't think OLTA is terrible, but I do believe it's a noticeable step down from the first two albums. This new self titled album however is unquestionably better.

Re: Interpol (4th album, Q3 2010)

OTLA took awhile to sink in. The problem with the album isn't the high points, as there are quite a few, but the low points. It is difficult to overlook poorly tuned instruments, muddy production and a few really crappy tunes.
But there are some really good tracks and the albums is very listenable as long as you keep a finger close to the skip button.

Re: Interpol (4th album, Q3 2010)

OLTA is a fine album. I hadn't heard it in a while, and my wife grabbed it recently for a spin, and it still registered as a fine listen. I think it's hard for a band this good to stay consistently appreciated because the bar is so high, but-- to compare them to a similar band-- any of their albums seem fresher than say they work of the Bravery. I'm going to see them live tomorrow (my third time seeing them) and will share some videos I plan to make.

Love The Bravery's first two albums, the last one was a major letdown.

I was talking to gmal2003 about this album today. He agrees with the majority that while OLTA has some good songs, it took a step back from the first two albums.

What would you guys consider the highlights of OLTA? I'm especially fond of the first five tracks, but "No I in Threesome" and "The Scale" are songs that I can't get enough of. Gmal says those songs aren't really consistent with the rest of their sound.

Yes, I've given the first two albums a try and they are good, but I really love the ones on OLTA.

For sure they give an awesome concert though!

No I In Threesome is my favorite song on the album. Who Do You Think is my next favorite. After that, Pioneer To The Falls, The Heinrich Maneuver, Mammoth, All Fired Up and Wrecking Ball are all about the same to me. The others I don't care about.

Cool.

So what exactly about OTLA that was different than the others. I have an idea, but I can't really put it into words.

Love, love, love No I in Threesome.

Re: Interpol (4th album, Q3 2010)

wow - I had no idea Our Love to Admire was so hated either until I read this thread... it's my favorite cd by Interpol - I still listen to it very often (and own 3 copies of it - US standard, US limited edition, and UK cd dvd edition with the 6 live songs & 2 videos)

I too found the new one online and am liking it a lot - just not as much as OLTA.
