Duran Duran 1st and 3rd album Special Editions March 2010

Excited about the first in particular, will be interesting to hear the unreleased material. I don't care too much about Seven and the Ragged Tiger because that's when they sort of went down the tube to me. With this and the Rio special edition that came out not too long ago, it's pretty well a definitive set of their early years.

ooooh, this sounds great, especially the debut album.

Are they ever going to remaster the late 80's albums? It's time for Notorious and Big Thing IMO

I think they're planned and will probably come out late 2010, just a guess

^ sweet!!

IMO, these are the way to do remasters. The debut will be an amazing DVD especially considering a lot of those videos did not appear on the Greatest DVD.

yes, they're giving us everything there is finally including demos and a bbc session that bootleg collectors don't even have

the videos for nightboat, careless memories aren't on greatest as well as lonely in your nightmare. The deluxe editions now have corrected that at least. They did appear on a vhs back in the mid 80s though.

Re: Duran Duran 1st and 3rd album Special Editions March 2010

I love buying video collections of artists that I like a large part of their discography, but I think Duran's Greatest DVD is one of the biggest wastes ever. Way too many easter eggs and far too many videos missing.

Makes these editions a better deal for it. OTOH, I didn't bother with MJ's Thriller 25 release because everything on the bonus DVD already appeared on either the HIStory or HIStory On Film Vol. 2 DVD's. These old UK tv performances may suffice on YouTube often, but it isn't like you can buy them elsewhere.

I agree about the Greatest dvd- I thought it was very odd they would just leave off some of their early videos and instead put loads of sometimes pointless easter eggs.

There's still early footage out there that's not on these special edition dvds but it's pretty good for what it is. Pretty much any artist's dvd isn't all inclusive and is missing TV appearances.

This is amazing news - I've had my fingers crossed for 'Seven and the Ragged Tiger' in particular since 'Rio' was announced. That one looks a little light on bonus material that's not already out there, but the first album looks loaded!

I am also curious to see if we'll ever get 'Notorious' and 'Big Thing' - I actually prefer 'Notorious' to the debut.

Duran Duran's first one is a nearly perfect new wave album, IMO. And doesn't the uncensored Girls on Film video feature boobies?! I'm there for this one.

I'm surprised there aren't any demos on it- like the song "seven and the ragged tiger" At least there's As the Lights Go Down, it's pretty much a concert video minus all that stupid additional filmed footage that's in the Arena version of this.

John Taylor said they're going to release their "4th and 5th album" as well in deluxe editions so it is going to happen with Notorious and Big Thing. He may be talking about Arena but since that came out already with bonus tracks I doubt it. It would make more sense if it was studio albums.

I know the demos for 'Seven and the Ragged Tiger' that have been floating around on bootlegs forever have been proven fake by Simon, but there have to be some actual demos they could put out for it. I've always been curious to hear the early version of 'The Seventh Stranger'/aka 'Seven and the Ragged Tiger', even in an unfinished form if need be.

'Notorious' and 'Big Thing' were rumored to be coming out in 2006 for the former's 20th anniversary, so that would make sense. Another new edition of 'Arena' would be totally worthless at this point.

They can totally stop after 'Big Thing', though. Outside of 'Astronaut', all the albums past that were patchy at best - would anyone even care about a deluxe edition of 'Liberty'? I doubt it...

They might be embarrassed of them or something, that's my only guess. I know there must be some that exist. I only have heard one of the "demos" (seven and the ragged tiger) and heard they were fake numerous times before. I wonder who faked them, kind of interesting someone went to the trouble.

What exactly does "fake" mean in this instance? I have a CD of rough versions and outtakes from the Seven recording sessions and it is definitely DD. I suspect Simon might say they are fake because he sounds so horrible on several of the tracks.

a lot of people say it's not DD. I don't really know much more than that, I've only heard one of the tracks.

Very much so. Also the uncensored version of The Chauffeur has boobies too...but that version doesn't appear to be included.

Am I the only one that thought this thread was about a special edition of Duran Durans upcoming new album entitled First and Third?

I am glad they moved Is There Something I Should Know with Seven And The Ragged Tiger. It's a good song, but it was really just a marketing ploy to get people to buy the first album that might not otherwise at the time. It would fit with that album better than the debut.

This is way cool, this is how the record industry needs to a special edition, not let's just add 4 more songs. I probably will get the 3-disc set and digital download of "Seven and the Ragged Tiger", I still need to get "Rio" too.

Re: Duran Duran 1st and 3rd album Special Editions March 2010

Oh hell yes!

Duran have been my guilty pleasure since I was 12 years old (a.k.a. my "in the closet band" that I don't admit to my friends that I listen to them). I wore out my sisters vinyl copy of Rio when that bad boy came out.

If they ever get around to doing a re-master/re-issue of Big Thing I can die a happy man. The CD of Big Thing has such a crappy sound quality, it's in dire need of a level boost. I honestly think someone at the factory accidently hit the "muffle" button when this was getting pressed onto CD. My cassette version sounds awesome... but I rarely ever bust the cassette's out anymore.
