Gorillaz: Plastic Beach - New Album 2010 [9 March]

"The band have taken up residence, recording on a secret floating island deep in the South Pacific, a Plastic Beach HQ, made up of the detritus, debris and washed up remnants of humanity. This Plastic Beach is the furthest point from any landmass on Earth; the most deserted spot on the planet."

Plastic Beach:

01 Orchestral Intro (ft. Sinfonia ViVA)
02 Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach (ft. Snoop Dogg and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble)
03 White Flag (ft. Kano, Bashy, and the National Orchestra for Arabic Music)
04 Rhinestone Eyes
05 Stylo (ft. Bobby Womack and Mos Def)
06 Superfast Jellyfish (ft. Gruff Rhys and De La Soul)
07 Empire Ants (ft. Little Dragon)
08 Glitter Freeze (ft. Mark E Smith)
09 Some Kind Of Nature (ft. Lou Reed)
10 On Melancholy Hill
11 Broken
12 Sweepstakes (ft. Mos Def and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble)
13 Plastic Beach (ft. Mick Jones and Paul Simonon)
14 To Binge (ft. Little Dragon)
15 Cloud of Unknowing (ft. Bobby Womack and Sinfonia ViVA)
16 Pirate Jet

Older info:

Title is confirmed: Plastic Beach

Confirmed Guests: De La Soul, Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed, Barry Gibb, Bobby Womack, Mos Def, and the Horrors

Per Albarn, it's the "most pop record [he's] ever made".

The record is almost finished so hopefully we're looking at early next year for the release.

Sources: Pitchfork, Gorillaz-Unofficial

I'm incredibly excited about this release. I love the first two records and this one sounds like another instant classic. More news as it develops.

I wasn't big on their second album. I loved Clint Eastwood, that's what got me hooked on their first CD. Hopefully this one isn't as mainstream sounding but with the 'pop' thing mentioned, I'm not holding out hope.

For me it was the other way around.
I wasn't too big on their first cd, but the second grew on me so much that I listened to it daily.
I even went to 2 of their Manchester concerts.

I'm very excited for this release, and if there were to be special gigs as the one in Manchester, I will be attending

Awesome, glad to hear he is going back on his previous statement that there would be no more Gorillaz albums.

I love both of them, but I feel like Demon Days is much deeper album in terms of themes/lyrics and the Dangermouse production is just brilliant.

I love all of their music, both albums are classic, and am surprised by this announcement. I heard the same comment you did and thought it was all over for Gorillaz. It really made me sad... this is excellent news!

Would have preferred one last Blur album. For over a year I've read in various places Albarn saying it would be the ultimate new wave album. Then.....nothing. And now Blur is has officially disbanded. Not happy about that but I'm thankful for Gorillaz at the very least.

I don't think they can get Graham on board with a new Blur album and they don't want to make another without him.

Damn, he's one busy guy. I feel so ignorant because I had no idea. Have these albums charted or sold over in the U.K.?

Yeah, I'm sure they all charted in the U.K. I think the most popular was "Hapiness in Magazines" which came out about 5 years ago. That was the one I remember hearing the most about anyhow.

Coxon's output features in an artist-specific part of Amazon UK.

I bought my brother one of these last year - probably 2009's The Spinning Top.

I read that his fifth release - which I'd take to be the first he released after leaving Blur - made the UK top 20 album chart.

Edit: the wiki link at the top right of this post shows all the UK album chart placings:

The Sky Is Too High (1998) #31 (UK)
The Golden D (2000) #81 (UK)
Crow Sit on Blood Tree (2001) #131 (UK)
The Kiss of Morning (2002) #126 (UK)
Happiness in Magazines (2004) #19 (UK)
Love Travels at Illegal Speeds (2006) #24 (UK)
The Spinning Top (2009) #36 (UK)

I like it as well. I prefer Demon Days over the first album, but I think all the Gorillaz output pales in comparison to Blur from Modern Life is Rubbish through the self-titled.

Self-titled? What do you mean? The first Gorillaz?
