So glad so many people are diggin' the Dark Mean track, & there have been some posts I've already added to my own ipod by you guys.

Here's another one for you. I literally could listen to this song on loop for 24 straight hours.

The National & St. Vincent - "Sleep All Summer"

This is a remix by Fila Brazillia of the Sneaker Pimps' rather well known song '6 Underground'. I don't know where else to get besides converting this MP4, or just put the MP4 on a mobile device, it's hard to track down this track.

Sounds better if you hit 'HQ'.

This is lesser known track that just kicks all kinds of ass in my book. If one of you knows where to get a good MP3 let me know.

Here's my pick from the almighty Ulver - one of the most original, ever-evolving groups I've had the pleasure of listening to. No two of their albums sound like.

Some interesting textures there. Here's mine, from a man who knows a bit about ambience himself:

I love this song and it is only on a 4 track ep, and IMO their best.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mM4zBG8Df00&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mM4zBG8Df00&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And here is one of my favorites from the last year.

Let's keep this thread going!

Ignoring the fact that it wasn't actually these two who made the music...this album really is a gem. I love this song:

Re: Post a random song you deeply love, & try someone else's.

I assume a main point of this thread is to introduce people to bands and artists they're unfamiliar with. One that I really liked was an early 90's band called Poi Dog Pondering. It was started by a guy named Frank Orrall who I saw playing in a ska band in Hawaii in the mid 80's. In the late 80's and early 90's he formed a band with a bunch of eclectic musicians in Austin and released three records for Sony. They never sold well, but he's pulled an Axl -- he still plays with a band called Poi Dog Pondering (though the rest of the band is very different now, except for the violinist). They play house music and are very popular on the live music scene in Chicago.

I couldn't pick just one song by them I love, so I'll include one early one from the 90's on Letterman. It's dated, but still catchy:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hZ7oxb5BjJ8&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hZ7oxb5BjJ8&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And a new version of a later track called Jack Ass Ginger with the new band:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wlccuVl6ztA&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wlccuVl6ztA&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Original version of the song can be found here.

Re: Post a random song you deeply love, & try someone else's.

^^Nice Dylan, although it sounds similar to about a dozen songs he did in the '60s. My fav of his is also probably the most atypical song he ever did, "Series of Dreams", an outtake (?!) from Oh Mercy. The Daniel Lanois "wall of sound" sound is breathtaking, the lyrics are poetic, and I love the circular keyboard (?) that pulses through the background after the 3:00 mark. Song begs to be played loud.
This is the longer version from the Bootleg Series. There's a shorter one with an impressive video.

Ready for some international songs?

Andra & The Backbone - Sempurna. The song means "Perfect" in Indonesia.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RJT29v7KH6U&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RJT29v7KH6U&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

and

Ungu - Demi Waktu. Demi Waktu means "For the Time's Sake"

Glad to see many Dylan fans here. I also like "Series of Dreams." I have an mp3 version from the Bootleg Series Vol. 8 . It's even longer (6:26) but doesn't include the circular keyboard you mentioned. One thing I find amazing about Dylan is that he can turn a song around in so many different ways and still make it come out great.

I just turned on the play counter in my iTunes, and Dylan was easily on top. Springsteen who I also like, is a distant second.

This is my kind of music - the kind of thing that I never get tired of. (I've been listening to this kind of stuff for 32 years now...)

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/07dR_zfKmJ0&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/07dR_zfKmJ0&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Great riffs, great vocal melodies, a killer chorus hook - and a groove to die for!

Re: Post a random song you deeply love, & try someone else's.

Of course, there's always this one...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JPatIkODQKs&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JPatIkODQKs&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

That's a brilliant song...

(I love both of those songs equally, and both are songs that most people here probably haven't heard. One because it's 35 years old, the other because it's brand new.)
