Kiss, LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers could be among next year's inductees at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

They are part of an eclectic group of 12 acts in contention for the 2010 class. Other first-time nominees include Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, The Hollies and songwriter Laura Nyro.

Some of the names on the ballot have been there before - Donna Summer, Darlene Love, ABBA, the Chantels, and the Stooges.

Only five acts make it in. The 25th annual induction ceremony is slated for March 15 in New York City. The inductees will be announced in December.

I love early Genesis and would love to see a Gabriel/Hackett reunion with the band but I doubt it will happen.

I don't really understand the point of the nominee process. Is there a difference in who votes for the nominees and the inductees? If so, then who decides on the nominees?

That said, as a longtime Chili Pepper fan, I'd like to see them inducted. It'd be really interesting to see Kiss and The Stooges inducted as well, considering both bands were fairly influential on the Peppers.

Of the list above, I'd most like to see The Stooges, Jimmy Cliff, The Chantels, and Darlene Love get in. It won't happen, but I'd like to see it.

I'd also like to see someone like the Dead Kennedys or Black Flag get in, but that won't happen either.

There is no way Genesis should get in before Yes.

Darlene Love and The Chantels are two more black artists who will make it in eventually, even though they are known only for a handful of singles rather than a full body of work.

How long til Maiden, Priest, Slayer Megadeth ect get in?

I don't know if any of those groups will get in, at least for a while. I think they are all eligible now, if 1985 is the year of first album release for the 2010 inductees.

I didn't realize LL Cool J was that young. He'll be just 42 in January. If he gets in, I think he will be one of the youngest to be inducted while still alive. I could only find a couple others who were younger: Stevie Wonder was 39, and Michael Jackson was also 39 when he was inducted as part of the Jackson 5 (43 as a solo artist).

Iron Maiden was eligible in 2005, Judas Priest in 1999, and both deserve to be inducted.

It's about 7 years too late, but nice to see KISS on there.

I'm completely flabbergasted over LL Cool J. WTF? When is "rap" considered "rock 'n roll"? If we're going to completely throw away the meaning of the word "rock 'n roll", why not nominate Garth Brooks or Mozart?

How many Platinum albums did LL Cool J have, anyway? If I remember right his career went downhill fast in the 90's. He has only been remembered as a rapper because of his acting career.

I find it hard to believe that they'd nominate him over several deserving ROCK acts. It seems that the HOF has become totally PC in their nominating process.

Unless you have LL Cool J performing some well written songs and actually singing or playing an instrument, I doubt you're going to convince many people who like rock and roll music.
