Non-stop for the last two days.

A different direction for them, but I still dig it : The Avett Brothers - I And Love And You

The Duckworth Lewis Method album is really something else, a concept album about the game of cricket by Thomas Walsh and Neil Hannon. Most reviews I've read are quick to make ELO comparisons, but the album is all over the place (in a very good way). "Meeting Mr. Miandad" is my current favorite, and is whimsical enough to be a children's song. You can get a good feel for most of the songs by listening to the samples at Amazon or eMusic to decide if it's for you. I am enjoying this one quite a bit.

eMusic has it, but I've been on the fence about downloading it. The :30 samples aren't doing all that much for me, and it doesn't help that one of the reviewers likened their "back and forth" vocal styles to Flight of the Conchords.

This is probably a real dumb question, but what's "NME"? As far as the album, it is my favorite album of the year, but I'm not claiming it's original or brilliant or anything. It just fills that empty void I had for something New Order-ish, kind of chill album I can listen completely from beginning to end. Personally, I love the back & forth of the two singers. So it all just works for me.

I picked this up while in Chicago as well - it is way more mellow than I was expecting but that's not necessarily a bad thing. After two or three listens I quite like it.

I'd give it more time but I cannot stop listening to the Big Pink album to do so.

Today it has been . . .

Another top record of the year contender. IMO much better than they overhyped Mastodon CD earlier this year.

I'm really glad to hear that. The Red Album was my favorite from 2007. I'm dying to give this one a listen.

Today it has been:

That Beautiful Small Machines EP is one of the coolest albums I've listened to in a while. Completely outside my musical comfort zone, but I'm completely in love with it.

That Beautiful Small Machines track reminds me of a much more radio-friendly version of Stars, down to the red-and-black-text design of the EP.

Re: What Are You Listening to? (Sept 2009) edition

There's definitely some similarity there. Not bad, but I think I prefer the BSM though. Everybody I play it for thinks I'm crazy

I was also listening to this, but I think my hotlinking was censored earlier:

Gonna take a few more listenings to see where it ranks in their catalog, but it's pretty good. Right now I'd say, not quite as good as Enter, but about on par with Station.

On the subject of The xx - which we're not anymore, but were - I just found out they're opening for School of Seven Bells when I go see them next month in NYC. Hooray!

On the subject of this thread, today it was the new Dragonette album. Poptastic!
