Well, I guess I'm on the outs with the majority of Foo fans there. I still think there are a few of us out there who think every single Foo album has some very worthy songs on it and that a compilation, especially for those who don't already have any Foo Fighters albums, might be a good thing.

Big picture : It's a little different now in the days of itunes and MP3, but back when I was growing up in the Seventies and Eighties, Greatest Hits were really important, since they introduced a body of work to a new generation of fans. At 12, I wouldn't go seek out Tumbleweed Connection or Desperado, but I did discover those artists in part from being familiar with their greatest hits albums. So even if it's not too useful for the uber-fan, the more casual variety might use it as an entry point into the artist's vault. Let's be honest :Color & Shape has been out for over a decade -- if anybody wanted it, they'd have bought it by now.
No, they may not all be better alone (though some are - I love "up in arms" way more than those other songs you listed), but within the context of the album, I think they all are. And unfortunately, it seems they've been getting away from the concept of a whole cohesive album for a while now - thank you, iTunes. I'm just bummed that they peaked so high with their second album that (outside of a few songs on each album) there's been a sort of diminishing return with every album since. My only point is that C&S is easily their best album, head-and-shoulders above the rest.

In my younger days, when I listened to greatest-hits albums, I seemed to always gravitate towards a couple songs here and there, only to discover they were all originally off of the same album or two. And some more than a few kids are gonna get this best-of and in a few years realize that they should've probabaly gotten C&S instead.

I can see not liking the song, but it sounds NOTHING like Fall Out Boy... if anything, it sounds like a Tom Petty song.

I was a little harsh - listening to it again, it does come off like lesser Petty, or a quieter Creed...

So all the bonus DVD really contains is just clips from the DVDs that have already been officially released? If that's true then it's similar to what led zep did with their mothership greatest hits package... Very lame, IMO

I heard "Wheels" on the radio and I thought to myself "If Dave Grohl was trying to make the perfect song for a light rock station, he nailed it."

Amazon exclusive? Have A Cigar has been around for YEARS... not bad if you don't already have it and are ordering from Amazon anyhow, but I wouldn't let that be a motivating factor IMO.

So is it a B-side or a studio outtake? I don't have that song and I own all the studio albums.

It was on the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack.

Also, it has Taylor on vocals, Dave on drums and Brian May on guitar.

In other words, it freakin' rocks!

Yeah, it's definitely a mid-temp song, but they certainly "rock it out" compared to the original version by Floyd. Mainly through some of the guitar work by Brian May. Certainly not as good as the original, but better than a simple by the numbers cover, IMHO.

Shit, Britney Spears can out rock Pink Floyd! As can Lionel Ritchie.

A "best of" is more subjective and it would be more appropriate to put new songs on a "best of" because they can always say that those new songs are among their best. But they can't say that new songs appearing on a "greatest hits" will ever become a hit. They can't predict the future.

It was already released as a B-side. The radio played it incessantly when it first came out, and I couldn't stand it, as it striped away everything that's great about the Foos; their power and intensity.

That's interesting. The sticker on the CD claims it's previously unreleased.

In any case, it's not replacing the original Everlong, so it just provides a very different interpretation of one of their greatest songs.

It's off an import single, so maybe unreleased domestically. And it sure replaced the original Everlong as far as radio rotation was concerned.

I was gonna pass on the set, but I got the deluxe version just for the dvd of their videos.

I dig Greatest Hits releases. They're great for casual fans that like the popular songs. I bought the deluxe version since I wanted the DVD, but i'm bummed out that the CD is missing stuff like the beforementioned DOA.

My Hero: was the baby's and the dog's face edited when they showed it on mtv back in the day?
Walking After You: first time seeing this video [one of my favorite foo songs], it is . The song sounded different than the album version, much faster tempo... ?
Times Like These: I thought they would have the original US version from the 3 versions. Surprised they went with the acoustic version.
DOA: First time seeing this video.
Resolve: First time seeing this video.
The Pretender: First time seeing this video.
Long Road To Ruin: First time seeing this. Rashida Jones is in it!!!!
