Brooks & Dunn call it quits

To me, this is pretty shocking:

(CNN) -- After 20 years of mega-success together, country duo Brooks & Dunn say they are done.

In a statement on their Web site, the pair said they will tour one last time next year as a goodbye to fans -- and then call it a day.

The decision to part was mutual, the duo said.

"If you hear rumors, don't believe them, it's just time," the Web statement said.

Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn were successful singer-songwriters in their own right when they joined forces and scored their first hit as a duo with their 1991 debut CD, "Brand New Man."

Since then, they have released more than a dozen albums, had 20 No. 1 hits and won the Country Music Association's Vocal Duo of the Year award every year from 1992 until 2006 -- with their streak broken just once in 2000.

The duo will release a compilation, ".1's . . . And Then Some," on September 8.

"The Last Rodeo" tour will begin in 2010, but dates have not been announced.

Re: Brooks & Dunn call it quits

I always thought that "vocal duo" award was a sham anyway because the competition was so limited.

I only know one of those songs, and that's because of that hick kid from the first season of The Real World.

What's the over/under on reunion tour? I'd say 3.5 years.

I thought they were coming out with a new album that included their new hit, "Indian Summer." I guess it will be on this GHs album.

"My Maria" is a good song. And I have one of the shirts they supposedly designed.

Still have just their first Greatest Hits CD. That's all you really need. "Diarrhea" and "Poop Scoopin' Boogie" are classics!

Re: Brooks & Dunn call it quits

I read somewhere that they were being compared to Montgomery Gentry too much - which was one of the reasons (rumored) they were splitting up.

Doesn't matter to me, Hall and Oates are still the longest running musical duo, if I remember correctly.

Actually I always wondered how much of their early success was due to the name. You know, someone just picking up a CD because they thought it was Garth Brooks with some guy named Dunn.
