Re: "Favorite" Artist Tournament: Round of 32/Group #2

U2 losing to Prince (by a hefty percentage) comes as a huge surprise to me.

As much as I like some of Purple Rain and 1999, I could have sworn U2 would make it a few more rounds. I haven't really paid too close attention, is any of Prince's "symbol" and "Artist Formally Known As" work worth checking out?

Smashing Pumpkins (extremely easy. I like maybe one or two Zeppelin Songs. I love many Pumpkins songs.)
U2 (easy. dont care for Prince at all.)
The Rolling Stones (hard pick but Stones have done way more and have a better catalog of hit songs.)
John Lennon (extremely easy)
Pink Floyd
Elvis Costello
Pearl Jam
Frank Sinatra

I like Prince and U2, but Prince has way too many low points and shitty albums in his catalog for me to pick him over U2.

Man, I cannot believe that Pink Floyd is beating Jimi Hendrix by that much.

Wow.

I would have thought this would be a close matchup.

Yes, yes and yes! Just because his commercial appeal withered, his quality of music is still very strong.

As for the poll, the tough one for me was AC/DC vs Sinatra. Totally different, but equally awesome. I chose Ol' Blue Eyes, cause I figure he'll need the votes.

I cast just one vote, and that was for the Chairman of the Board. I almost cast a vote for Pearl Jam because Mike McCready is a fellow Crohnie, but since I don't actually listen to their music that seemed disingenuous.

IMO Hendrix isn't in the same league as Pink Floyd. I like some of Hendrix's music, but just like Nirvana I think it's overrated because of them dying.

Agreed. I love Elvis Costello but he's not in the same league as Tom Waits.

Since Waits counts Costello's The Delivery Man among his 20 favorite albums of all time, I think you're right.

Costello was an easy choice for me; really, the only tough time I would have choosing him would be if he were up against The Beatles.
