The Ted Nugent Appreciation Thread
I think it's time to discuss the one and only Motor City Madman, the Gonzo Rocker, Terrible Ted Nugent!
Ted's been at this thing for over 40 years, and he is still out there firing away on his six string axe like he did 35 years ago. Ted is a great guitar player and an underrated and underappreciated songwriter. And he's always got a great band backing him up!
For my money the, "Lost Gem," in Ted's album catalog is this one - Tooth, Fang, and Claw!

For all the crap that Ted gets about his politics a lot of people forget or just ignore the fact that he's a great musician who has also written some damned good (often great) Rock and Roll songs.

Love me some Uncle Teddy, that is 80's Nuge, i can't stand the Amboy Dukes and some of his 70's material is pretty good so for me i prefer the Little Miss Dangerous era, my favorite tune is easily "Tied up in Love" from Penetrator.
Enjoy...

Ted Nugent was the first concert I saw, in about '84.
Which ones are better known?
Personally, I just listen to two of his albums, Cat Scratch Fever ('77) and in my opinion his best album, Double Live Gonzo, from '78.

Same for me - Ted Nugent with the Michael Schenker Group opening (San Diego at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in the Bing Crosby Hall). Great show - Ted put at least 2 miles on that stage that night, and he and his band put on a great show musically as well.
Ted's bestselling albums are Ted Nugent (1975), Free For All (1976) Cat Scratch Fever (1977), Double Live Gonzo (1978), Weekend Warriors (1978), State of Shock (1979), and Scream Dream (1980).
Everything else would constitute a lesser known album, especially his pre 1975 and post 1981 albums. Some of them are really, really good (such as Tooth, Fang, & Claw - as I noted on the first post).

Only saw him once, Januarary 1977. Rush opened for him. This was six months before the release of Cat Scratch Fever. He introduced it as a new song and played it, and for about 4 minutes I was in rock heaven. It's never sounded as good since and I'm pretty burnt on hearing it by now.

I'm a big fan of Ted Nugent, always have and always will.
My favorite album / cd is Free for All. Although i'm really not a fan of the title cut.
I love Street Rats, Light My Way, I love you so I told you a lie, but my favorite is Writing on the Wall from that cd.
I wish he would release a DVD of one of his earlier concerts from the 70's-early 80's when he was in his prime.

Yep, it IS a flat-out Rocker!
Also have TED NUGENT through WEEKEND WARRIORS. I was in my teens and early twenties during this period and would buy them as released. WEEKEND WARRIORS was the first I didn't think was very good. Gave Ted one more chance with STATE OF SHOCK which I didn't think was very good at all and haven't bought any since, except the Damn Yankees cds.

Re: The Ted Nugent Appreciation Thread
Completely agree. I used to be big fan, saw him back in his heyday. Still love to crank tunes like 'Stranglehold' and such. But I saw him in concert a few years ago as the opening act for someone, and was really disappointed with his hardcore left-wing bashing and almost hateful propaganda speech.
I'll still listen to and enjoy my old CDs, but won't support him anymore financially.

Re: The Ted Nugent Appreciation Thread
The one problem I have with Ted's stuff are the songs that sound "super fast". Almost like a 331/3 LP set to 45. I like the guitar riffs in songs like Stormtroopin, Queen Of The Forest, Snakeskin Cowboys, Dog Eat Dog, Cat Scratch Fever, etc. Although I like it now, took a long time before I could get into Motor City Madhouse, which is slow compared to some of his other stuff.

Re: The Ted Nugent Appreciation Thread
The only Ted I own is the first two Amboy Dukes albums where they sort of flirt with psychedelic music. I'm not a huge fan of them but Journey to the Center of the Mind is still a cool 60s psych track. I think their version of Baby Please Don't Go was the worst thing on the Nuggets boxset though.

Re: The Ted Nugent Appreciation Thread
I've noticed some Ted Nugent import cd's now and then.
Are they a better quality sound than the original American releases?
Some of his cd's that I have, Scream Dream, Weekend Warriors, Double Live Gonzo
are the original American releases and in my opinion are due for an upgrade.
I think one of the labels is called Rock Candy that carries the imports if i'm not mistaken.
Would these be an upgrade over the original American cd releases?

Wow, I didn't realized CalJam 2 was OOP. I love that album, brings me right back to high school. Nugent's version of 'Free For All' totally rocks!!
Also liked Heart's performance on there. Most of the other were kinda weak though.

Re: The Ted Nugent Appreciation Thread
It says soundboard recording so quality may be questionable. I do have a cassette tape of the Foreigner performance which I taped off FM radio and is first rate sound so who knows. That Aerosmith set is killer. Seriously doubt these cds are in anyway legit.
It does say "non-commercial" cd. Also specifies stereo. Somebody buy it and let us know. Are links to this kind of stuff allowed?
