The Beatles - easy, not a fan of the cure
Sonic Youth - easy
Johnny Cash - sucks voting against the Ramones, but Johnny Cash is great
David Bowie - not even close
The Who - even less close
Tom Petty - not a huge fan of either, but prefer Tom Petty
Kiss - not a huge fan of the music of either, but Kiss is pretty entertaining to watch
Fleetwood Mac - another easy one

#64 The Cure
#32 Arcade Fire
#16 Johnny Cash
#17 David Bowie
#8 The Who
#25 Alice in Chains
#73 Weezer
#41 Red Hot Chili Peppers

Mostly easy choices for me. Too bad The Cure are going to get trounced.

Re: "Favorite" Artist Tournament: Round of 64/Group #1

Here's where it gets interesting:

#1: Beatles, love the Cure but it's the Beatles
#2 Arcade Fire, love Sonic Youth but I think Arcade Fire are one of the best band's around right now.
#3 Abstain, have huge respect for both but not really that into either
#4 Michael Jackson, RIP
#5 Abstain, see #3
#6 Tom Petty, fan of AIC but Petty is timeless
#7 Weezer, no comment.
#8 Abstain, RHCP are weird for me, I love their older stuff but can't stand their recent albums. Fleetwood Mac I'm fairly indifferent towards.

Beatles - Yeah, no, The Cure.
Sonic Youth - Not the biggest fan but don't like AF.
Johnny Cash - Easy.
Michael Jackson - Bad draw for Bowie, though it appears he's winning...
The Who - This was the toughest choice for me.
Tom Petty - Though I did like AiC too.
Weezer - sorry, B5Erik
RHCP - By a mile.

Re: "Favorite" Artist Tournament: Round of 64/Group #1

Ooooh, some tough choices this round. I likes me some Johnny Cash, but put up against The Ramones, I had to lean the other way. I was on the fence about the Fleetwood Mac vs. RHCP, too, before I tipped to the latter. And as much as I dig The Cure, anyone is going to have a hard time beating The Beatles in my book.

Not yet.

I had a feeling this was coming. Some people listen with their eyes and close their minds. Oh, well - to each his or her own.

My picks

The Beatles
Johnny Cash (by the slimmest of margins)
David Bowie
The Who
KISS
Fleetwood Mac

See, that all depends on what you call Rock and Roll.

Me? I call Rock and Roll Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, KISS, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Thin Lizzy, UFO, Van Halen, AC/DC, etc. Go back to the beginning and follow the thread going through the history of Rock and Roll. There is very little difference between, say, Chuck Berry and Ted Nugent, or The Stones and KISS - very similar riffs, very similar melodies, KISS (and Ted) just played it louder and harder.

It's the spirit of the thing. Unpretentious, FUN, entertaining, energetic - ROCK AND ROLL, BABY!!!

(And I'd be willing to bet that you didn't listen to a single song posted above, so your opinion, such as it is, is moot anyway. There really is very, very little difference between KISS' songs and The Rolling Stones. Listen to the guitar riffs, listen to the melodies. KISS just plays it harder and with more distorted guitars. If KISS is garbage then so are the Stones.)

Note the artists that I voted for above. Not a bad bunch of bands/artists. And note that I haven't called ANY other bands on here, "Garbage." It's a shame you couldn't take the high road.

C'est la vie. Have a nice weekend anyway.

Re: "Favorite" Artist Tournament: Round of 64/Group #1

1: Beatles - Obviously, as the countdown timer might indicate.
2: Arcade Fire - Liked Neon Bible, but they would have lost against any other artist in this poll.
3: Johnny Cash - "Cash" was on the short list for my son's middle name.
4: Michael Jackson - Like many, I'm just now rediscovering how good that early stuff was. Tough call, Bowie's great.
5: Billy Joel - No disrespect to The Who -- they're great, but I'm a lifetime Joel fan. Another middle-name short list finalist (with "Dylan")
6: Tom Petty - Easiest choice of the bunch. I think he's hugely underrated for a rock superstar.
7: Kiss - Mostly for their live stuff. I like Wheezer's early stuff, but that's it.
8: Fleetwood Mac - Another tough call. This is for their early stuff. Saw them live recently and except for Lindsey, they weren't very good. Now obviously RHCP is better.
