Well now that I've listened to some of his music, I'd easily choose Guns N Roses in the matchup as I don't care for Jazz.

Wow. PE vs SP is tough for me, I loved PE growing up, but I just listened to the masterpiece which was Siamese Dream, and it was a slam dunk for me.

Journey over Neil Young

U2 over Roxy Music

Prince over Frank Zappa

Guns N' Roses over John Coltrane

Neil Young losing to Journey pisses me off the most though.

Re: "Favorite" Artist Tournament: Round of 128/Group #5

As one of the people who nominated John Cale, it makes me happy to see him pulling in way more votes than I expected, though I knew he was probably going to lose to whomever he was pitted against.

Anyways, my picks:
1 - abstain (fairly sure I haven't heard anything by The Cramps, and I'm kind of neutral on Zep anyways)
2 - Neil Young (Young is very hit-and-miss with me, but when he does hit, it's pretty spectacular)
3 - Public Enemy
4 - John Cale
5 - Roxy Music (was a hard choice at first, until I remembered just how generally bland U2's output has become for the past 15 years or so)
6 - Boston (can't stand Harvey's voice)
7 - Prince
8 - John Coltrane

Neil Young has the same problem that Billy Corgan and Dave Matthews have: many people find his voice grating. Although I like him enough, I can understand people who think that way.

I don't think Smashing Pumpkins has aged well and honestly, they only had, what, 2 or 3 worthwhile albums? The last one being Melon Collie.

Public Enemy, meanwhile has two classic albums: It Takes a Nation... and Fear of a Black Planet.

Prince/Zappa was the toughest choice yet for me (Zappa took my vote)
And how is Journey beating Neil Young, have I missed something?

This is a list that only Billy Corgan could love.

I kind of share The Bus' attitude towards the Pumpkins; in my opinion, all you really need is Siamese Dream and their Greatest Hits album and...well, that's pretty much it.

lol. The singles are not even the best part of Corgan's work. Imagine that people have different opinions heh.

I would generally agree with this. Though Machina didn't do a whole lot for me And MCIS could have been whittled by about 10 songs for a tighter record. Also, Adore has really grown on me over time.

I agree about MCIS, If you wanted to make a real double disc, I think you could have brought over a few songs from TAFH, and it would have made that release even stronger (If you still wanted to do a double).

I was really luke warm about Machina, At first I did not really like it, but now after all these years, I like it pretty well. Although I think Machina II is better.

As someone who has listened to all but a couple of the titles you listed, I can assure you they most certainly are. What can I say, the Pumpkins generally leave me cold.

Not much of a chance to vote for us weekday DVD talkers.

Sorry about that. It is hard to gauge how many days I should leave them open, because the polls really die off after two days most of the time. I try to make sure there is at least one full weekday in each poll.

I kinda wish I'd picked The Cramps so I could have every one of my choices lose.

No biggie I just don't check this board on the weekends so when I came here to vote at the end of Monday I was bummed to see it closed after it went up midday on Friday.

Thanks for all the work putting this together, I've really been enjoying it!
