4/14 (Wednesday): Playlist by Elvis Presley - $2.99

Uh....I don't get this album at all. It's not even the Idiot's Guide to Elvis. Very questionable song choices. Get 30 #1 Hits instead. Oh, and who the fuck decided it was Elvis Week this week anyways?

Blame Amazon for conditioning us to $2.99 :(.

You aren't paying for an album. You are paying for a download. There's a big difference to me.

Whether you're paying for a physical CD or a download, the price has never been about covering the cost of the medium. CDs cost very little to press and package. You're paying the cost of writing, recording, mixing, mastering, as well as payment to the artist, the record company that bankrolled the album, and profit for the store that sold it to you.

$5 is nothing --- less than a value meal at McDonald's. But I guess when so many people are OK with stealing their music, $5 looks like a lot.

I've never stolen a piece of music in my life and $5 or more for a digital download is too much for me unless a cd is unavailable at a reasonable price. I don't really care what the cost is technically covering. That's completely irrelevant to what I'm getting. I have no problem dropping $10 - $15 on an album I want. Hey, it's only about the cost of two value meals at McDonald's. The nice thing about the $2/$3 price point Amazon had is that I'd buy albums I didn't necessarily want or know anything about, just to give them a shot. At $5, I won't do that.

I think you may have taken my post the wrong way.

I am "old school" and never download music illegally. Actually most of my friends laugh at me because I still refuse to download "for free" and instead wait for the cd to drop below 10 bucks or buy the cd used.*

My point was that I feel I get more bang for my buck with the full album instead of downloading. Call me crazy but I prefer having the album artwork, liner notes, lyrics if included, better sound quality and the ability to resale the cd if I choose to. Downloading music is a waste of money to me unless it is just a song here or there for 99 cents or is super cheap. I can usually buy the cd for $5 or less used...so why waste it on a download that is missing all the items I want?

*please note that if the album is out of print, the used cd is priced at a crazy amount, or the album is not available via legitimate download, then I have no problem downloading for free.

Reading the comments, it seems like there are a lot of quality issues with the recordings. What did you think?

It is still downloading so i haven't listened yet.

Even if 25% of the tracks aren't perfect it would still be an alright deal imo. I recently (within the past 2 years) started listening to opera at all and am still enough of a patzer that a great big collection will all be newish to me.
