60s garage rock
I just wanted to ask if anyone is a fan of this music. I guess the only thing rock critics will look at is the Nuggets boxset but it reaches far deeper than that (back from the grave, teenage shutdown, pebbles, etc, etc) and not everything on nuggets I'd say was garage. It's really an ignored part of rock history. Nobody seems to give it the credit it deserves (influencing punk in particular) To me though that's part of the charm of it, it's kind of my own thing that nobody really knows or ever talks about. The garage label came later in the early 70s or so and it was the US answer to British Invasion groups like the Stones, Yardbirds, etc. I kind of think of anything that's not from the US as not being garage (like the UK and Australia) but instead as beat music but it often gets lumped into the category as well. I usually post in 60s music discussion boards with people who really like genres of music from then but I just figured I'd bring the question up at a more general music forum.
Couple of my favorite garage bands (of course not everything they did was "garage" like per say but the majority was)- We the People, Standells, the Wailers, Sonics, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Seeds, New Colony Six, The Poor, The Dovers, The Choir, Larry and the Blue Notes, Harbinger Complex, Chocolate Watchband, Swamp Rats, Lyrics, Haunted, Ugly Ducklings, Blues Magoos, Shadows of Knight etc. etc. etc.- it's hard to list the bands that only had one or two singles!

Not too big on the revival stuff but I like the stems, early chesterfield kings, Lyres, DMZ, Miracle Workers (first album), Gravedigger V, and a few others. A couple like the fuzztones I think are kind of overrated.

I listen to a lot of it. The 60's stuff. Have most of the Sundazed cds. Garage Beat'66 series, Battle of Northwest Bands, etc. We The People, Shadows of Knight. Dunwich Record Collections. Missed out on the Green Plastic Ties series from Collectables. Recently discovered, but haven't bought yet several collections available from the labels Psychic Circle and Arf Arf.

The series is called Green Crystal Ties (named after a Zakary Thaks song) It's ok but you didn't miss out on much. A lot of it is remixed and altered if I remember. I'd recommend getting Teenage Shutdown and Back From the Grave if you haven't already much more than those.
Psychic Circle has a new boxset out featuring all the That Driving Beat volumes of UK beat music. It's a pretty good series.

Another boxset I really like is the Rubble series. They were packaged in 2 boxsets (vol. 1-10, vol. 11-20) It's mostly UK psych singles. Looks to be out of print now but can be bought from sellers,

this set is pretty cool and along the same vein:

If you like garage rock, you should definitely listen to Little Steven's Underground Garage.

Although, he does need to redesign it a bit.

Anyone have or checked out the Born Bad compilations?
Product Description
Throughout the history of rock n' roll there has been those creatures that dwelt on the fringe, in rock n' rolls twilight zone. Deranged visionaries who took their music to the edge and sometimes over. The Cramps have helped us rediscover many of the crazed beings by recording and performing their songs and telling the world about about them. This album is devoted to uncovering those forgotten or ignored classics. Is also pays tribute to the spirit of goneness, so sadly lacking in today's music. And tribute to the genius of the Cramps who have the spirt and aren't afraid to show it.
